Its worth having a wander around this little gallery. There is a lovely display of paintings as well as quite a few unusual smaller items which would make lovely gifts for friends or relatives.
You enter the gallery via the visitor info centre. There wasn't anyone there the day we went do the visitor info attendant opened u the gallery. There was some really beautiful pieces with varying styles and prices. There are also a few little aboriginal designs items such as table cloths, bush tucker foods, prints and other items. I'd have loved to know more about the artists displaying the work, and have had someone there to talk to about the gallery, but I will go again when I'm in the area and might get lucky next time! And yep, I bought one of the smaller paintings!
Complete with a great musuem of the area, set in a lovely park with clean public toilets. They have great modern and traditional art. I loved it
An enjoyable time was spent at this exhibition which regularly changes to feature both famous and upcoming artists. You will also find some interesting pieces of history in the artworks which are featured. A good variety of indigenous themed gifts to purchase as well. The knowledgeable attendant was able to give us a great deal of information about all aspects of the gallery. Very enjoyable and educational.
We purchased a lovely book about aboriginal art and artists, lime finger cordial, children's book...
I love looking at the local Aboriginal art that is availaible around Australia and am always suprosed and amazed at the beautiful art that is available in the galleries in NSW. Many have a contemporaty style but still reflect the Aboriginal stories and connection to land of the local Aboriginal people. The staff at this Kempsey Gallery are able to provide losts of local information and advice and have some great special exhibitions and events. I was lucky enough to be in the area whilst the special exhibition for the Kinchela homes was on- sad, but breath taking. I would recommend that everyone visit this gallery
