Easy access to the site and the blow hole was blowing beautifullyParking excellentAble to view the blow hole at a distance and up closeGrassed areas great for our dogs to play onDisliked all the cigarette butts lying on the ground next to smokers receptacles
Unfortunately the sea wasn't in the mood to produce a spout of water guaranteed to wet everybody within range. Nevertheless the council has provided very good parking including access for caravaners. The viewing access to enjoy the spectacle is very good with a brief pictorial explanation of the blowhole effect. The Little Blowhole is a little further around the coast. It is in some ways equally effective and not as crowded.
Pleasant walk up a hill from the bustling & busy town (especially on weekends) of Kiama. If mobility is a problem there is a car park closer to the blowhole. Like other reviews have noted, time your visit to see nature's forces at play - best at high tide. Most adults & kids enjoy it and a good opportunity to talk a bit of science plus safety with kids - an ex teacher talking here! Talking of kids...a grassy park, tables & chairs, a nice playground all in the main street of Kiama & a few minutes drive from blowhole. There are also excellent cafes etc in main/side streets of town. So a good day trip from Sydney for families or a stop on drive to &/or from the beautiful Sth Coast of NSW. Try to explore further south too if time as the countryside, beaches and small towns are worth it!
Beautifully located on Blowhole Point Road with great sea views, and walking paths from the Lighthouse. Despite choppy seas, it took a while for the Blowhole to blow up, turn your back and you could miss it! But it's a beautiful spot and all part of the charm and character of the place. Take the time to wait and you could be pleasantly rewarded.
A very interesting phenomenon, the ocean swells are pressured through a natural rock hole just above the sea line, creating a blow of ocean metres high. Be sure you come at high tide as the pressure under the rocks determines the height & power of the sea blast out of the hole. With the right timing, this attraction can be a blast!
High tide is best for some spectacular viewing and photo opportunities. The Little blowhole is really good at high tide with some very high water spouts.
amazing experience watching this. could spend a whole day in awe!!! nature's splendor!!!walking on the ragged rocks beyond the blowhole right up to the top of the ledge is another worthwhile experience.
What a shame we came when the sea was calm. It must be absolutely amazing when the sea is right. The little blowhole was 'doing its thing' though, so if you miss the big one, the small one is still interesting - it is at the other end of the town. The area is still well worth a visit and the reasonably priced local fish is a bonus!
This hole in the rocks must send a great spray of seawater upward when the tide is in. For us it was a tiny puff of mist once every for minutes. There is also a light house and the headland is a good vantage point to look out in both directions up and down the coast.
The upgrade to the surrounding area allowing a clearer and safer view of the blowhole. We were there on a calm day, have been there during rough weather which is far more entertaining.
Best attraction in Kiama, a must see by all. Kids loved it aswell. Interesting and fun at the same time, with a beautiful lighthouse near by.
If the wind is blowing and the tides are right then this is an amazing spectacle of mother nature!Make sure you take your camera and be careful not to get too wet.
Kiama's weather was balmy, mild and never too hot or too bracing. Absolutely fantastic. Kiama itself has many heritage and terrace houses. All of it very charming and cosy. Friendly people, too. The nearby Southern Highlands were emerald-green even in February. We'll come again.
