Blue Knob Hall is on Blue Knob Road about 10km north of Nimbin, beneath two sacred Aboriginal landmarks: Lillian Rock and Blue Knob / Mt Burrell. Established as a local community hall in 1930, it remained in use until the 1980s. Like many Australian rural halls it then fell into disrepair. But it was not to remain that way. Extensive renovations were begun by voluntary community members in 2000. It was a proud day in the local community when the hall was officially opened again in 2004. Today Blue Knob Hall Gallery is a vibrant, artist run gallery that aims "to promote the awareness and appreciation of art within the community and to visitors, and to foster professional art practice". It's very much part of local Rainbow Region culture, and it's exhibitions reflect this. Their annual fibre exhibition is especially worth seeing. The attached cafe is a lovely spot to spend an hour or so (check the gallery's website for opening times). At the moment the cafe is also the location of the very popular "Food Lovers Sunday Lunch" events - again see their website for details. There is also a small shop with locally made arts and crafts for sale.We recommend visiting Blue Knob Hall Gallery on Saturday morning when a small farmers market is held on the premises. You can wander around the market and meet local stall owners, then visit the gallery to view the current exhibition, and finish up with lunch in the cafe. Enjoy your visit, we always do :)
