A great stop driving back from Murwillumbah to the Gold Coast. Two carriages, one with train seats and tables to enjoy a morning tea. Loved the cakes but would have also liked to see a couple of savory items, they needn't be extravagant something like cheese scones or a small cheese and cracker plate
what a great place to stop for a drink or bit to eat. situated on 2 renovated old rattler train carriages this comfortable, interesting, friendly place to stop. what a great idea.
Such a trip down memory lane for us all, we have been a few time before today we celebrated a special friends birthday!! Great place for sweet desserts, good coffee, assorted teas, gluten free also
I recently visited the Red Rattler with friends for morning tea, en route to the Margaret Olley Art Gallery. My friends enjoyed the lightest scones with jam and fresh cream, and I, having coeliac disease, had a slice of date and coffee cake. I am always wary about gf cakes, but this cake was moist, not crumbly, and quite frankly, I want the recipe. The coffee was excellent as well. The setting was so peaceful and the decor was a step back in time. A very enjoyable experience, and I'll be revisiting this venue.
Great gallery and tearoom set up in a couple of train carriages. It is off the main route so it requires a detour to find it. Supporting local artists is a good reason to stop in. Peaceful country setting provides a tranquil rest stop.
We stumbled across the Red Rattlers as we were driving through the countryside. How glad were we that we stopped. Set in the old carriages, the gallery cafe, has an extensive menu of drinks, particularly in the teas. I would recommend taking a serve of the scones... at only 6 dollars for two with jam and cream. Winner. If you're passing by, stop and enjoy a cuppa here!
We visited there with friends in late 2013. It was a place that they often come to for a drive and to partake in the freshly baked scones and delicious coffee. The train carriages have been restored and are full of memorabilia, arts and crafts. We were delighted when we arrived and took a tour through the carriages after our yummy morning tea. It's well worth the lovely drive.
Red Rattler Gallery is a "hidden gem" tucked away at Dungay on the road between Murwillumbah and Currumbin Valley....Consists of 2 restored 1928 railway carriages, one housing various artwork by local artists, the other a relaxing place to enjoy an excellent coffee and FANTASTIC home made scones ( cooked in wood fired stove), jam and fresh cream and various slices...the menu is not huge but the quality and service is excellent...a very popular spot with those cruising the Gold Coast / Northern NSW hinterland either on a motor bike on car...we make the pilgrimage at least once a month for a coffee and scone "fix", and we make a point of taking all our Interstate and Overseas visitors there for a pretty unique ( imho ) experience...if you are in the area, check it out, I don't think that you will be disappointed.
