The Mt Canobolas SCA is in an interesting part of the world, but the maps you are given in the Tourist Information Office, and the maps on the information boards in the park, don't align at all so it's very hard to know exactly where you are going, or to choose a walking track. Also, the pamphlet claims they are all "Easy" which as far as I know means that they can be managed in light shoes by relatively unfit walkers; well, I was in my hiking boots and while I'm certainly not the fittest, I can manage several hours of good bushwalking without complaint but I had to bail after about a kilometre of the 3.8 km Federal Falls walk. My husband continued and said it was very tough indeed. This is all fair enough, but the signage should warn people beforehand. The picnic areas looked good and well-maintained although we didn't use the facilities. There were tables and gas BBQs in a pleasant grassed area.
a very well kept park - would love to see it in the autumn when the leaves are different colours....the glasshouse was a nice bonus
Nice drive up the mountain although treacherous roads with gravel. Once onto the top great views of Orange both day and night (very good stargazing) also if lucky like us you will see kangaroos. Walks can be done from top car park. Can get a little colder up the top and is breezy.
Nice drive up the mountain to the top great views of Orange both day and night also if lucky you will see kangaroos both day and night
This is a spectacular view of Orange. To stop and view this area and be given a commentary of what is around the area was such a delight. The wildlife in this area is a bonus.
Highly recommended. Outstanding views from the summit and many interesting walking trails throughout the area. A keen walker could spend two or three days in the conservation area.
Take your beanie it was a good 5 degrees colder at the top than in the town centre. Very pretty. The dirt road is well maintained and a few options which way to take.
The explanatory posters on top of the mountain are an excellent example of what one might hope to find at a natural/scenic attraction.
Worth the drive, it is pretty much like every other bush in Australia but you can see a good view of Orange from the top. it sometimes snows too.
It was a nice short drive from Orange up to Mount Canobolas. Make sure you stop at Lake Canobolas on the way up or down though as there is more to do there. At the top of the Mountain there are walking tracks that are not suitable for children. I would come prepared with water, good walking shoes and appropriate clothes as the tracks are unpathed. In winter, there is snow ground cover which makes it slippery but yet pretty. There is a nice view of Orange from the top.
Two routes up and I ended up going up twice. Once to get 2 year old to sleep and once to see the sunrise. Great views and took some of the firetrails on the way down. Novice 4x4 perfect for me
This is a great place to go for bush walking, with a number of options available for different times and physical ability. The waterfall walks are particularly good after rain. If there has been snow in the area, this is the place to come.
Did a hike to Old Man's Canobolas. Trail was easy to follow, and not too difficult for most parts. Got a little steep/rocky as we neared the summit. Recommend to go early while there's plenty of daylight. Spotted a kangaroo.
Went to the top of the Mount and was impressed that the walking trails were all well posted - but it would have been nice to have something more to look at (or through) than VERY distant landscape. Maybe signs with (distant) points of interest or telescopes would have meant that visitors would not spend less time on the mountain than they did driving up there.
Just amazing for quiet time talking eating a picnic dinner walking just a very nice place. Id go again and again
