Drove out to the dam about 19km from Kangaroo Valley. An easy drive. The dam is huge and we were lucky enough to get lots of detail from some of the workers there. There is an amazing contraption they use for bring the fish from downstream back up into the dam. There were kangaroos everywhere and school children who had camped there overnight. Enjoyed the hour that we spent there.
Visited with my friends and families and everyone enjoyed the location. The dam was so beautiful and we did swimming. Some of them did kayaking also... Nice to visit this place for a day trip or a picnic.Facilities available1. Toilets2. BBQs3. Boat ramp (Only for Kayaking)4. Car parking
this place took my breath away. The view from the dam wall and the surrounds are just magical. You cant walk all the dam wall as half of it is a designated restricted area. But the views are still amazing from the dam wall you can walk on. Theres signs with interesting info about the fish lift (which helps fish get over the wall to migrate) as well as the species of fish and facts about the dam itself. There is a nice little park area where you can head down to and I presume launch your canoe and the like. Really beautiful spot. A must if youre in Kangaroo Valley !
The scenery here is breathtaking to say the least. It had rained the night before so there were plenty of areas to pull the kayak into to explore waterfalls. Lots of wildlife to go with the serenity.
The area is a beautiful catchment area of the Shoalhaven River, not far from the small country township of Kangaroo Valley. This is a pretty area and not only is the dam and the fishlift interesting to see, one can also see wallabies, ( a type of kangaroo), lazily foraging on the shores of the river. There is a launching area for lovers of canoeing who may wish to enjoy the sport and views from the water.. one would have to have your own canoe as there are no commercial renting businesses on site.
