We booked this trip at short notice but Paul and Anne were helpful in accommodating us. The next morning my wife, daughter and I met Paul who had two two person kayaks with him. Over the next three hours we had a leisurely trip around the Clarence estuary with Paul pointing out local landmarks and wildlife. He also kept us entertained with comments and discussion about a wide variety of topics including his interest in music. We stopped at an island for a picnic of coffee, fresh fruit and Anne's delicious home made banana cake. All in all a great experience.
We spent an excellent morning with Paul and his daughter kayaking up the Clarence Estuary and the reckon it was the best thing we did during our 2 week holiday in Yamba. As per the other reviews here we would have to agree that Paul is an excellent guide, professional, knowledgeable and very friendly. The equipment was good quality and the whole thing well organised so it went without a hitch even though there were 9 of us. It was a warm January morning but the breeze on the river ensured we weren't uncomfortably hot. We learned a fair bit about the history of the local area and got plenty of exercise from the unaccustomed work of paddling and so were more than ready when we stopped for a break. The morning tea was the highlight. Paul had laid on plenty of fresh fruit, and brewed tea and locally produced coffee which was excellent but the standout was the Armenian Nutmeg Cake that his mum had baked. I can still taste it. Excellent. All in all if you want to do something a bit different this is an ideal way to entertain a family.
As long time Yamba residents, this tour was a great way to be a tourist in your own town! Paul is a fantastic guide armed with tons of knowledge about the area as well as a few funny stories about some of the more 'colourful' local characters. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking to get out and about and try something different - you won't be disappointed!!
We had a superb time on the kayaking trip. We particularly liked the amount of wildlife, we saw, e.g. 3 different pods of dolphins, eagles, ospreys, falcons, pelicans. The crew of Paul Tom and Anne were caring welcoming and knowledgeable. We have been to Yamba many times and had not thought to go kayaking. This was given to me as a birthday present and I highly recommend it as something to do, as well as a great gift idea.
We went out for a morning paddle with Paul on the Clarence River. The weather was a bit wet and drizzly but this did not spoil the trip. We were shown all the local wildlife! Then a stop for morning tea with fresh fruit and lovely home made cakes. Would recommend this relaxing trip to anyone and would defiantly do it again myself if I was in the area!!!!
We had a really nice couple of hours in the kayaks with Paul (legend).Great tour guide and nice guy. The wind was pretty strong and made it tough going, but we took our time and had a great afternoon.Afternoon tea was really nice, with some fresh fruit and cake Paul's wife had made.Definitely recommend this if travelling into Yamba! :)
This is a great way to see the wildlife and the river. 4 of us went in double kayaks rowing across the river to Iluka, then around several islands stopping for morning tea on a sandy beach. We explored a creek running through the centre of an island and returned to our starting point. Our guide , Paul, had a wealth of local knowledge and history and the bird life on the river is amazing The kayaks and equipment were all in good order, safe and comfortable and the tour was easy for us (over 55 with no kayaking experience). We thoroughly enjoyed our kayaking experience and highly recommend this tour.Karen and Bruce
Our family of 2 boys (10 &14) had a great morning kayaking with Paul, owner of Yamba Kayak Tours and our guide for the day ( a top salt of the earth bloke!). The morning was overcast with patchy drizzle and Paul rang us with the option to cancel if we wanted too, however we were happy for an escape from the hot sun and we were raring to go. Paul was well equipped with rain ponchos for us. We began the tour with a bit of rain and a slight breeze however after that the conditions were perfect. After a good paddle across the inlet we cruised around the islands, Paul all the while pointing out wildlife and landmarks of the area. The morning tea an absolute highlight, freshly brewed coffee, tea and juice not to mention fresh fruit and the scrumptious homemade Armenian Nutmeg cake all devoured on a sunny bank just under the nest of the majestic Osprey....what more could you ask for! The kayaks area easy to use and Paul had the tides, wind and weather all aligned so that the end of the tour was a lovely drift down the Clarence. Paul himself is a very interesting bloke and a pleasure to talk to on the 3 hour trip. We highly recommend this adventure, a great way to explore Yamba!
After finding a flyer for kayaking where we were staying, I rang Paul to find out more. He was very helpful and friendly and this was exactly the kind of person waiting for us the next morning to take my 8 year old daughter and I out on the river. He was very knowledgable about the river and wildlife and endeavoured to make it as enjoyable as possible-especially for my daughter. I would recommend this trip to everyone as I'm sure Paul the adventure for all ability levels. Thank you for making our trip so memorable
We headed out with Paul this morning. It was a little bit overcast so as a courtesy he called to check if we were still ok or if we had any concerns about going out on the water. There was a short burst of rain but conditions were perfect after that. Our tour consisted of a gentle pootle around the islands of the Clarence River punctuated with interesting commentary of the wildlife and local history of the area. It is clear that Paul absolutely loves this area, who could blame him, and his enthusiasm is infectious. He also seemed to have orchestrated the avian community to appear right on cue as we turned a bend or glid under a branch. Bird spot of the day has to be the majestically turned out Blue Kingfisher. We also caught a glimpse of some wallabies which, as a newbie to Australia, is always a joy. The Kayaks themselves seemed to be very good quality (i do not profess to have any experience of them for comparison) and I felt safe and comfortable with their stability in the water. We thought of simply renting the Kayak for a few hours but I am so glad we went for the guided tour instead. We took a few minutes to get used to the steering and the synchronisation of our strokes and I take my (giant) hat off to Paul for not laughing out loud as we drifted through one tree after another. I reckon the best way to learn was to mess up from time to time. The tea break with delicious banana cake and fresh pineapple was most welcome and it was a pleasure just to kick back and chat with such an interesting person and watch the world drift by for a few moments. We have had a amazing holiday here in Yamba (staying at Angourie Rainforest Resort) but our 3 hours on the river this morning is most definitely my highlight.
Our family group of 8 with little kayaking skills but great expectations were treated to one of lifes memories thanks to Yamba Kayaks. The Clarence River sparkled an inviting welcome and the craft themselves were in great condition, comfortable, easy on the lower back, safe and glided efficiently through the magnificant waterway. Paul gave an interesting commentary on the history and bird life and the morning tea on our own deserted island was to die for !!! How did he organise the dolphin display ? Recommend this attraction to a keen photographer, a stressed out accountant, a fitness fanatic, an overweight guy who only exercises in his mind, a person seeking peace with nature...and even the proverbial butcher, baker candle sticker maker yes almost anyone Denis Mackay
All 6 of our family took a morning tour with Yamba Kayaks and had a fantastic time. Paul was a very interesting guy and took us to some beautiful spots pointing out many birds and land marks along the way. We stopped for morning tea with home made cake from his lovely wife which was delicious. All on all we all agreed that next holiday in yamba we will definately be taking another tour.
My wife and I were in Yamba visiting a friend, and she recommended we do a kayak tour. Paul took us out for an amazing 3 hours of fresh air, sunshine, and animal spotting. We were lucky and got much more than we expected: turtles, fish jumping, eagles, hawks, cranes, jellyfish, dolphins, and stingray.Paul was very friendly and a great tour guide. He was able to give us very interesting information about the area and also gave us space and time alone so it felt quite romantic as well. We even stopped for some morning tea and delicious banana bread homemade by his wife.We had a really excellent time with him and would not hesitate to reccommend him to friends. An exellent way to start our day. :-)
I've recently moved to Yamba and wanted to do some local things. I was a little worried as I haven't done much kayaking before and thought it would be too strenuous for me and I would get tired quickly. However, none of this proved true! The paddle was completely relaxing with no stress or time constraints. It was a beautiful trip on the big wide river with interesting facts and morning tea provided by 'bushman' Paul. I was joined by my Italian friends and they too thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
Paul and Ann were great hosts and Paul was a very knowledgable guide for us and our 2 teenage daughters. He choose a starting point which allowed the wind and tide to gently help us along our way up the river. We felt like we were on a nature show getting up close to see beautiful birds and their nests and Paul took us up a side creek to visit a fruit-bat colony with mothers carrying babies flying over the top of us. Then to our surprise some dolphins came with us for a while playing and catching fish as they traveled right beside us. It was awesome! Morning tea on an uninhabited island is something young girls normally dream about but Paul took us to one and provided fresh fruit and home made yummy fruit cake. This experience will be something we all treasure and remember and hopefully get to do again someday. Thanks Paul for an amazing experience.
