My boyfriend and I stayed 2 nights at the Bald Rock camping site, and it was excellent. The lots are large and the bathroom and shower facilities are modern, with hot water on a 4 minute timer. From the campsite there are about a dozen hikes ranging from very short to all day - definitely enough to take 3-4 days to do everything. The most important things to remember are:> There are no bins - you must take your rubbish home with you. > No electricity on site.> Pack lots of sunscreen and insect repellant.> Bring your own firewood - you cannot use the local foliage.> Bring plenty of water - the tap water can be boiled for drinking, but the stream it comes from is slow moving and there is a lot of sediment. Lastly, individual sites cannot be reserved, so it is best to arrive around midday, as the areas with fireplaces get taken quickly when everybody arrives in the afternoon.
We were driving slowly back from Melbourne to Brisbane and decided to stay in The Granite Belt at Vineyard Cottages for a couple of days. The weather was very hot, so our longer walk was postponed to another visit. The short walks that we did were pleasant and we went up to the Granite Arch which reminded us of a recent walk on Bodmin Moor to Rough Tor.We will definitely return in the cooler months to explore more widely.
My friends and i visited this place 2 days in a row, it was that good.1st day we did the 15 minute walk and 30 minute walk and had a paddle in the river. Was a gorgeous day!2nd day we did the 1 hour walk to the junction, easy walk and when you get to the junction you wont be dispointed, take a picnic and swimming stuff and you can spend all day here like we did. There was no one else around and the granite pools are great for swimming and the area is stunning!!
A good variety of short, long, easy and mildly difficult walks to be had, but for a day trip the walks around the Bald Rock Creek day use area are best. From here you can also access the longer (but still one day) walks to Turtle Rock or Mt Norman. The Granite Arch/BaldRock Creek circuit is the pick though for a 2 hours or longer stroll and if you are a bit more adventurous, climb the Pyramid as well. Very good large picnic grounds as well.
Had been to the Pinnacles in Western Australia last year and found this nearly as appealing - lovely walks and the wildflowers were still around.
This place is like a different world. The Pyramid was the highlight of the walks followed by Castle Mountain. I can't wait to come back.
First time at Girraween (Castle Rock campground) and absolutley loved it! Hot showers, checkInteresting walks for all fitness levels, checkBeautiful swimming holes, checkGreat leveled camper areas, checkClean well maintained bathrooms, check Room (plenty of room) for the kids to run! - checkWe visited mid Nov, yes it was hot but the swimming holes helped with that.We did the Pyramid walk and as clearly signed it was hard but so worth it. I was so scared at one point I had to take stock and harden up to continue, so glad I did. The degree of difficulty is clearly signed at the toilets and the start of each walking area. Choose wisely do not scoff at the degree of difficulty, they are not having a go at you when they state how hard some of the walks are. Be prepared! We also did the Arch walk and Underground Creek walks. Our 4yr old, 7 yr old and 9 yr old did it all. Our 59yr guest couldn't manage the Pyramid steps which was in line with the degree of difficulty advice. We will definitely be back!
great area, some really good walks to do around the area! some interesting rock formations. some difficult tracks but most would be easily doable for most people.
My wife and I walked up Pyramid Rock in the Girraween National Park at 6.00am. It was a very pleasant walk mainly due to the time of day we chose to walk. We were also lucky to have some great weather which assisted in rating the National Park an excellent recommendation. If the weather was too hot or if it was raining the rating might not be so high. It is definitely worth the drive too. Get out and enjoy what the national park has to offer.
One of the most memorable and beautiful national parks we have visited. Plenty of variety of walks. The view from the Pyramids is certainly worth the climb and the wildflowers were still prolific.
A range of options of a few days walks to half day and many much shorter walks, to cater for everyones abilities and the weather. Many of these walks will be very hard on a very hot summer day, but there are still walk options that offer lots of shade. The walk up the Pyramid really needs good shoes, at least with a good grip, as there are sections that are steep and no hand-holds. If you are scared of heights or don't have a reasonable level of fitness, try some of the other easier walks. We did the Pyramid and the nearby Underground creek area in one comfortable day, stopping for lunch in the lovely picnic grounds in between walks. Lots of lovely photos.
A lovely well kept park walking tracks are well mark and kept very clean. Staff in information centre are helpful and the amenities are very clean. Lots of wildlife if you take time to really look and walk quietly. So good tracks for people who are not in the peak of their fitness years
My friend and I camped at the Bald Rock Creek camp ground. The facilities were good and most of the sites have nearby taps, bbq and picnic tables. Do not leave your rubbish out overnight or the possums will get into it. The start of the hikes are nearby. You can cover every trail easily in one and a half days. The granite rock formations make this national park unique. We were there in early October and all the wild flowers were in full bloom. Bald Rock in the next national park also worth the hike.
Girraween National Park is a great place to visit. There are walking tracks that cater to all levels of fitness & ability. The scenery is interesting, it's a visual feast. The pyramid walk had a spectacular view but it is challenging. On this walk my son counted 520 steps! We cooked a BBQ lunch on the free BBQ's provided. There are plenty of tables & toilet facilities. We couldn't find bins tho so take garbage bags so you can take your rubbish home with you.
Girraween is a superbly set up national park, great facilities, and tracks with multiple walks that can be done over 5-7 days or more quickly without children, close to local accommodation. The pyramids a star. Dr Roberts waterhole is a beautiful place
