We booked a boundary hut in this dry and parched time and found a blissful paradise. Since when do boundary huts come with infinity pools? So glorious to swim at sunset! Dinner was delightful. We went to see the Gorge, which is simply breathtaking in its geology and formation. The fern gardens fascinated me and of course the laid back fresh water crocs dozing in the semi shade. Our guide Steve brought the history, geology, fauna and flora to life for us. He kept us mesmerised as he lead us a merry trail through the bush and finally to gliding peacefully on and in the Gorge. We only stayed for one night, next time it will be for longer. There are walks and drives to do and endless birds and animals to watch.

We stayed in a boundary hut at the Cobbold Village for 3 nights, mainly to see the gorge itself. The tour was excellent with our knowledgeable guide Stephen giving the European and indigenous history of the area. The view from the top down into the gorge was stunning and the boat trip was equally fascinating. The wonderful thing about gorges is that they're all different and this one's a beauty. We also enjoyed walks near the village and saw many birds by the dam, which was getting lower by the day. The hut we stayed in was very comfortable and although it had no cooking facilities, BBQ's were available and the meals in the restaurant were very good. The road in is quite suitable for normal cars and the country is surprisingly hilly. We loved the whole area.

Stayed in Georgetown caravan park & drove the 90 k/m to the resort half dirt road but you can camp there if you wish. The place was fantastic & the tour 10 out of 10. Stephen our guide was excellent & the gorge itself was very special & different to others we have seen in other states.Take your bathers as they have an infinity pool that you can use. Oh yes the burgers are big, tasty & fair price. Don't miss seeing this place !

We drove to the gorge from Mt Surprise via Georgetown. A 2 1/2 drive so allow time as we arrived just as the tour was ready to depart. It is on private land so tour only. A short ride on a small off road bus to the gorge with commentary, an interesting & relative easy walk above with talks on bush tucker & some social history of the area. The view from above the gorge was worth the walk. The gorge is entered by an electric boat. A small but very beautiful gorge that had a magic feel, especially in silence. We really enjoyed the experience & if in the area would recommend the visit. Rough road in if you want to camp. 3 hr drive back on all dirt circuit via Eisfold to Mt Surprise but a really nice drive.

The tour itself requires that it be provided by one of two accredited tour organisations, because the Gorge was discovered as recently as 1991 and lacks almost all safety features, like railings and fences. However, once you arrive at the Cobbold Gorge's impressively modern tourist complex, you are taken on a large bus over and through dry river beds, twisting, winding and rough roads until you reach the start of the Gorge experience. It is very advisable to use the toilet facilities there before you set out on your guided tour, because it normally takes two-and-one-half hours to complete, including a silent cruise down the narrow, winding Gorge itself over forty mniutes. The Guide will take you up, and down, sloping areas to point out the unique flora and fauna, explain the history of the discovery, stories associated with the murdered George Cobbold and to the top of the escarpment with death-defying views of the Gorge 200 metres below. You then set out on the flat-bottomed viewing boats, powered by very silent electric motors, past sunbaking freshwater crocodiles, and sometimes literally scraping over the bottom of the Gorge, although its greatest depth is a little over 5 metres. The rough ride there and back from the Tourist complex is almost 45 minutes., so it's a good half-day's experience, and one you shouldn't miss if you're in the Forsayth area.

We went and stayed for two nights at Cobbold Gorge and went on the gorge tour. It is an amazing tour in such beautiful surroundings. You'll be sorry if you don't go see it. We will go back.

What an attraction and an experience - that alone will bring us back in the future but on top of that the staff offered a premium service to top off the experience. We booked with Melanie over the phone and arranged our site for staying 3 nights and going on the tour of the gorge (We extended to stay another night). We arrived travelling by 4WD with a camper trailer via Gorgetown (though a normal vehicle would have no trouble traversing the roads). The roads are in fantastic condition with only a few minor corrugations and no potholes, washouts or dustholes. We choose an unpowered site which suited our needs and got a very flat area that made it easy to set up the camper. After a swim in the magnificent pool (cold given the time of year and certainly refreshing) we headed to the amenities block. Without a doubt the best maintain amenities I have ever experienced in a park - thick soft bath mats and handtowels, good shower head, plenty of hot water, toilets that were fresh smelling throughout the day. We used the camp kitchen microwave and sink and the BBQ area for some meals - both were fantastic.Alex was our guide for the tour and his knowledge of the area (plants, geology, history, station facts etc) was excellent. Photos just don't do the gorge justice and there is a calm quietness experienced while on the tour. Absolutely Amazing.Kelly helped us with the walking tracks, where to go for a run in the mornings and general bits and pieces - nothing was too difficult and she provided more than enough information. The kids enjoyed the large trampoline and the fireplaces at night at each campsite to cook dinner and toast marshmallows. The bar and kitchen provided freshly baked biscuits and cakes and excellent drinks and coffee - unfortunately we didn't get to have a meal as we bought the meat at the shop and cooked on the campfire - the meat was beautiful and very well priced for families (we bought extra to take home). We came home via Forsyth and Einasleigh - fantastic road being a mix of bitumen and wide smooth gravel through to Einasleigh. After Einasleigh turned into a bit more of a track in sections. Would recommend high clearance vehicle for this section. The landscape views from high on the mountains and the dramatic changes in vegetation made the alternative route (Savahah Way) a worthwhile experience. We will be back - thank you to the Terry Family for sharing the natural environment on your station and thank you to all the staff for making it such a great experience for our family.

Thanks for leaving a review about your stay at Cobbold Gorge. We do have a pretty special piece of Australia as our back yard. The road from Forsayth to Cobbold Gorge (our front gates) is maintained by the Etheridge Shire Council meaning we are not allowed to touch it with our machines. They have advised us that they are keeping an eye on its condition and hope to do something with it before too long.

We decided to head to Cobbold George not that far from Georgetown. We took our 21 foot Caravan and although were going for 1 night stayed 3 it was that good.Road out to Gorge was Great with mainly Dirt but in good condition.Caravan sites were excellent with tiered sections on river pebble with water and power. The gorge tour itself is one of the few I would pay to do again. What a great spot with excellent facilities in Pool, bar Restaurant and very clean modern Toilet and showers. Highly Recommend to stop here for a few days.

I visited the Gorge a few years ago, but only as a day visit. This time, due to the connections between the the two iconic trains servicing this region, I was able to stay 2 nights. The highlight has to be the Gorge tour on those delightful, silent boats which enables one to really absorb the natural ambience of this pristine place. Our fantastic and knowledgeable guide (Adam) a local, really knows his bush tucker and it was truly educational to try the various fruits off the native bushes and trees. It was early in the tourist season when we stayed so it was quite warm, about 33C, however the social area of the resort, the bar and eating area provided lovely cool drinks to thirsty walkers. The recently installed infinity pool adds another pleasant touch to the resort area.Don't expect an extensive menu as the location is miles and miles from Cairns, however the food was very good.Accommodation is basic, but comfortable and one more highlight is to walk a Km or so out of the resort area along the access road in the dark of night with a torch...turn off the torch and due to there being no light pollution, the stars above are simply brilliant...and unforgettable.Talking to the down-to-earth Michael on the journey to Forsayth to meet the train, the operators of the resort have some great ideas to further the enjoyment for visiting overseas touristsWe look forward to returning to Cobbold Gorge on the way to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Gulflander in 2016.
