This is overpriced and boring. Go to the tourist information office instead. Pick up a brochure and get out and explore the world around or book a tour with a local operator and experience the real thing.
An incredibly interesting way to learn about the diverse marine environment of Hervey Bay & Fraser Island. Something for kids and grown ups.
This was a great way to complement the whale watching trip that we did in Hervey Bay. We learnt alot more about the whales and this reinforces how much value this region places on the visiting humpback whales. We were also very lucky that we arrived on a day of a local whale festival which included bands and entertainment for free. We really enjoyed our Hervey Bay experience.
Nice centre for an hour or so with good interactive displays and a nice video. Ask staff for the kids discovery quiz which will get them engaged in the learning!
This attraction is a credit to the Area and "The Council" and every body should go to see the work and the exhibits that have been put into this wonderful attraction. You can show the young ones a lot of History and exhibits of the local area not forgetting the WHALE stories and movie. Also in this complex are ART works by local Artists and with Craft made by local individuals..There is a Souvenir Shop and coffee available....LOCALS and / or Visitor whilst in Hervey Bay should see this
We were very fortunate when we visited the Discovery Sphere - staff from the Maryborough Wildlife Centre were there with a wide variety of animals. We got to hold snakes and pat dingoes - including a dingo pup. While watching the video presentation the dingoes were inside with us and wandered around which enthralled our children. The discovery centre itself, is very informative and has interactive exhibits to entertain children.
For those unable to take a trip to Fraser Island, this is a must see. The story of the Island and the whales is very educational. The children really enjoy going.
We went on a Saturday afternoon - not that much to do or see really, just a lot of souvenirs, all the same thing. In and out on 15 minutes, to be honest.
We went in the school holidays, and while they seemed to have lots to do for the little kids (7 or under), my kids were pretty much done after about 15 minutes. My husband and myself felt the same. Maybe we're just spoilt as we have a marine fish tank at home, but I found it all to be pretty ordinary. There was no opportunity to touch anything (as shown in the promo video) and the feeding tank was a small 2ft tank from what I understand with a few small fish in it. No biggie. Overall, we were really disappointed.
Very professional guide, and well prepared itinerary. We only had one day and this tour made the best of that short time.
Well worth a look if your in town. Had some good info on the whales and K'gari (Fraser Island) Would be great to have incorporated the tourist info centre into it, although there is a small info section in the corner.
The first thing that grabs your attention is the beautiful Whale outside of the building, absolutely amazing to see, such beautiful carving in the wood, you can't take your eyes from it.The kids had a great time in the Discovery Centre, they were given a sheet to answer questions and they just loved that. There was lots of interesting information about Fraser Island, the whales, turtles, etc, etc and there is also a film that's on a loop and was very interesting and relaxing to watch.Would highly recommend this place.
The day we visited, the centre had visiting dingos and lizards. This definitely made the trip worth the visit. Otherwise, the facility is quite small and could be seen in under an hour. Although kid focused, young kids will not be too interested.
The Discovery Sphere is an excellent educational and interpretive centre for anyone wishing to learn more about Marine animals and the enviroments that make up the Fraser Coast. It is a must visit prior to going whale watching or visitng Fraser Island. The amazing sculpture of Nala the Humpback Whale outside is one of the best scultures to be seen anywhere.
We visited just before going to Fraser island. A good idea as u will get a nice insight to the area. A relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff.very informative and a great spot to stop and relax. Nice work guys.
