I loved this place from the moment I walked down the palm lined entrance, with the beautiful flame trees, strangler figs, and other trees around me, until we found the building. Although the wet season has not started, and it is quite dry everywhere, I can imagine that Mackay is fantastic when in full green glory. And this park with the Orchid Garden must be a sight to behold. The park is open only two hours per day and longer on Sundays. So you will need to time your visit. The gardener there told us that we had missed the full blooming of all of the orchids by about one month, so if you go in October, I am sure you will see an amazing collection. It was already amazing enough with what was flowering at the time. It is a small collection, but you can keep busy for an hour looking and discovering the orchids large and small. The collection includes orchids from Australia and around the world. The setup and design is very nice, and the whole experience reminded me why I love Australia so much. Don't forget the garden outside - it is also worth a walk through. The head gardener is a very kind and gentle guy, and you can see that he is passionate about nature and you having a good time. Thanks again to Mackay for another free attraction!
Limited visiting hours but worth a visit if you can time it! Although not 'peak' flowering season, there were plenty of photo opps to keep me entertained. Lovely butterflies and birds outside too while I waited for opening. It would pay to prepare with insect repellent if you need to wait!
Beautiful orchids here and the staff are very knowledgeable and willing to have a chat. Please check opening times on the internet prior to going as I found the opening and closing hours a bit odd.If you love orchids don't miss this display at Queens park.
Have never seen so many orchids in one place, they are stunning and inspiring. Queens Park is easy to find.
Visit here when the local growers come to sell and show their beautiful plants. It is always worth it. Come with a hat, and a picnic lunch, with blanket for a relaxing morning out with the family. Beware the orchid grower's bug may get to you.
Mackay orchid house at queens park is one of MACKAYSharon hidden gems. Fantastic displays, well trained staff and a great spot to spend an afternoon
This was a fine display, mostly cared for by volunteers; set in a lovely park with some lovely specimens of old trees. Great place for a picnic.
Orchid house located within Queens park. So many different varieties of orchids in this small room. Free entry but please donate a gold coin to support. Two playgrounds in the park for young children. Remember to note the limited opening hours.
Free entry and Lots of orchids to see. Great informative lady answering questions. Worth a look . Easy to find in a historic park in centre of Mackay . Not open all day
Free admission. Small but colourful orchid house situated in the Queen's Park grounds. A must for orchid growers with lots of varieties of orchids.
It is only a small orchid house but well worth dropping in to see. You may even see the rare orchid in bloom if you visit in October/November
This is a wonderful place to visit. There are some beautiful plants there, and when several are in flower it is just spectacular !!! It is very well taken care of. A must to see
Amazing, beautiful, spent two hours looking at these beautiful flowers, the keeper was very knowledgeable and helped explain all the different flowers and plants, I was very impressed,
