Amazing place to visit!! These guys work so hard to keep the sanctuary going while educating visitors. They are an absolute fountain of knowledge and are so welcoming and friendly. Great place to get up close to so many native animals.
Beautiful animal interaction. Feeding cangaroos is something unique you can do in you life. I've been there few times and never get annoied
It cost us $60 for 2 adults, our 2 yr old and 4 month old were free. We walked in, fed some kangaroos, looked at the kolas who stunk of pee, found the baby animals and walked out. This took maybe 30 minutes. There's not much shade and no chairs at all through out to sit down unless you go back to where you pay and it's so hot there it's not even funny. Don't waste your money!
This place is very special. Importantly it is a wildlife sanctuary and not a commercial zoo and it is wholly funded by donations. I loved the fact that the Kangaroos and many of the birds roam free. Don't take any notice of the reviews which suggest the birds are aggressive they are not they are just naturally inquisitive particularly if you are carrying food. The koala interaction and feeding the kangaroos were my personal highlights. I loved my visit which was a highlight of my stay in the area
This animal park is only a short drive from Yeppoon and is worth the drive. For a budget price compared to many larger zoos/parks we have been to in Townsville, Cairns and Port Douglas it has a really impressive range of animals which include Cassowarys, Wombats and some miniature monkeys. Forget previous reviews about scary ducks and goose following you (come on people?? its an animal park with ducklings running around if you can't handle this maybe you need to watch animals only on tv...) this is suitable for all ages and all animals including emus are friendly. Was a pleasant surprise with lots of info about conservation and worth the trip
Enjoyed a relaxing morning wandering around the park, exploring native animals and feeding kangaroos. Plenty of different animals, and opportunity to hold different animals including snakes and koalas.
I took my two grand daughters here at the ages of 4 & 2, because I thought it would be a great experience for them. From the minute we got past the kiosk into the park itself they were petrified. The ducks, roos etc are so used to being fed they have become demanding. At the size the girls were having 30+ ducks flying on mass at you plus kangaroos pawing at you &/or towering over you scared them stupid. I ended up carrying them around which made it a very quick trip rather than the leisurely day I had envisioned. I realise others may enjoy getting that close but some of the ducks were quite aggressive in the way even after being shooed away they still literally stalked the girls. Much to my dismay they won't go there again & had a few nights of restless sleep thinking the ducks & roos were going yo get them.
I'd recommend a trip to Cooberrie Park if you're the kind of person that enjoys being persistently and relentlessly followed by a goose for two and a half hours. Sometimes I look over my shoulder and for a split second think the goose is still following me despite me having left the country. I occasionally wake up sweating in the middle of the night having dreamt the goose was breaking through my window. For the love of god get rid of that goose, it is a menace to society
Cooberrie Park is an Animal Sanctuary. A lovely place for children as the animals are running around loose, You can buy food to feed them with. The Emu was a bit naughty but was OK, if you did the hand signals. There is a swimming pool so if wanted could spend the day with a picnic. It was lovely feeding the kangaroos , ducks peacock and kangaroos by hand. Well worth a visit.
Our grandson liked looking at all the animals but got scared of the emu who was bit too inquisitive. Interactive display was excellent and my daughter got to hold the huge python whilst our grandson petted the koala. The dingo looked a bit old and haggard. Information on the various animals provided was good to read
Visiting Cooberie Park was worth it. There are so many animals. I recommend booking some encounters, some are 50 dollars, but really cool. We had a private guide and a lot of time to learn new things about the animals and hold them. You can go for a swimm in the pool or feed all the kangoroos or other animals. If you read the bad reviews, you must understand that Cooberie is not as big as other zoos, but they take care of the animals really good, so they are happy. They receive no government foundings, and all the money you spend there goes to the animals.
Lots of interacting with the animals, and not so big that our 4-year old got bored before the end, loved stopping halfway through for a swim in the pool.
Over 300 animals were waiting to meet us as we ventured to Cooberrie Wildlife Sanctuary. Only 30 minutes from Rockhampton it is well worth putting this park on your to do list when in the area. The staff are very knowledgable about the animals and happy to answer any questions regarding any of the species in the park. A must do is to hold a koala! These cuddly Australian icons are happy to snuggle up to you for a photo or two. A great Australian experience not to be missed.
nice walks. Plenty of bird life to see. BBQ areas and seating perfect day out next to the beach. Free of charge!
I went with 10 kids ages 1-17 and for the most part all the kids enjoyed it. The only concerning bit were the free-roaming emus, which were a bit intimidating and one was rather assertive trying to get food off one of my daughters, which understandably freaked her out a bit. However, overall a great day was had being followed by whistling ducks, kangaroos, peacocks etc, most of whom were tame enough to hand-feed. The staff were delightful, very helpful and knowledgeable. Not a particularly pram-friendly place, due to the open expanses of grass/trees/bush, but manageable nonetheless.
