Had planned our road trip to Cairns around the Friday night rodeo practise and wasn't disappointed. The steak was great and the rodeo was lots of fun. My kids loved it, especially as we were taken behind the scenes by a lovely chap whose kids were participating. Great night just wish it had lasted longer!

On Sundays they have bull riding schools for the learners. very interesting to see them try to stay on. Mechanical bull for them to practise on.

Stumbled on a bull riding event just after Christmas and spent a couple of hours slack jawed at the sight before us.The professionals were just mental, they all deserve the $30,000 on offer, you would not catch me doing that. What was even more staggering were the children, some as young as 3, riding bulls, big and small.The only real down side was that $15 each bought you just 3 hours of entertainment and the pub next door shut at 10pm.If you are in Rockhampton, you must check this out, decent steak at the Great Western too.

It's a great country pub near the heart of the city. Come for a great steak, stay for the rodeo. Not sure where else in the world you can see a full on rodeo in town. Doesn't matter if your from the city or the country, all will enjoy a unique night out.

A great family night out. We went along on a Wednesday night when they have free entry to bull riding training. Our son loved it - especially the part when a poor bugger fell of a bull and ended up with his leg pointing in an unholy direction (it was top of his prep recount of school holidays!)Drinks are exy ($11 for a spirit can) but then the entertainments free so I guess you can't complain :)

What an amazing thing to find in the middle of a city, a full rodeo arena complete with bulls, steers, bucking broncos and more cowboys than I have ever seen before. Heart stopping thrills and spills, not for the faint hearted, but certainly a fantastic way to spend a Friday night! The locals are friendly (and great for explaining the rules!!!) the drinks are reasonably priced, and the spectacle is amazing.Highly recommend this attraction!!

We went Wednesday night and the finals between Australian and New Zealand Young Guns were riding. A good family outing. No fee Wednesdays. Saturdays $15. A well run, professionally organised event. Dinner - Fish of the day Snap frozen Barramundi. Shame. There is great fish supplier in Rockhampton. Grilled with too much white sauce & small prawns. Choose beef. The Steaks are brilliant. It was our first experience to see a rodeo. We went a wednesday night (beginners and children). So impressive one little fellow 6 years old on the cow... wow

If you're into bull riding, or you're just an inquisitive tourist, this is the place to go. No need for the feint hearted to apply, as real life, modern day cowboys wrestle with 800Kg beasts. It's not always pretty, but is an exciting spectacle. There are free practise rides every Wednesday and Friday at 7:00PM, as well as regular competition rides throughout the year. Check the web or the hotel for schedules. Part of a hotel complex, meals can be taken ringside if you wish.

Want a true cattle town Australian experience? Head down to the Great Western Hotel. I cannot tell you how surprised I was to see a full sized Rodeo with real bulls in the ring. If you go down on a Wednesday you can watch the students do their practice. Great food and great beer.

Ich betrat das Lokal mit großer Erwartung. Gleich am Anfang kleine Schwierigkeiten mit Rucksack. Ich bekomme keine Hilfe und entscheide mich den Rucksack in einer Ecke abzulegen. Ich setzte mich an einen freien Tisch, aber es kommt niemand um meine Bestellung aufzunehmen. Ich bemerkte, dass die anderen zu einer Kasse bestellen gingen. OK mein Fehler, aber anstatt mich anzuschauen, hätte man mir helfen können. Naja, ich bestelle, kurz danach werde ich darauf hingewiesen, mein Platz wird für eine Gruppe benötigt. Kein Problem, ich setzte mich um. Etwas danach kommt die Kellnerin, sie habe die Bestellung vergessen, naja, kommt vor und noch ist nicht so viel Zeit vergangen. VL 30 Min, wobei ein Teil meine Schuld ist und ich mich noch etwas in dem Lokal umgesehen hab. Also alles kein Problem. Als allerdings nach 30 Min immer noch kein Steak vor mir steht, werde ich langsam nervös, da es im Fernsehen auch die Wiederholung vom Rodeo zum zweiten Mal spielt. Alle anderen haben ihr Essen, nur meins und das von der großen Gruppe auf meinem Tisch fehlt. Ich frage die Kellnerin, wie lange es noch dauert, sie speist mich mit einem "won't need that long" ab. Als dann die andere Gruppe bedient wird, spreche ich sie nochmal an - kurz davor zu gehen. Sie sagt sie redet mit dem Koch. Als sie zurückkommt, sagt sie, der Koch hat das Steak gerade aufgelegt. Ich zu hungrig um jetzt noch woanders hin zu gehen denke: "ok ich gebe ihnen noch ein paar Minuten". Als mein Steak dann nach einer Stunde nach der Bestellung kommt, eine hastige Entschuldigung. Allerdings war es eher roh als medium. Ich beschließen es trotzdem zu essen, da ich keine Lust auf ein großes Theater hab. Als ich bezahle noch ein schnelles Danke fürs Warten. Das war alles, was ich für meine Ruhe und Geduld bekommen hab. Ich komme auf jeden Fall nicht zurück um mir das Bull riding anzuschauen. Schade eigentlich, da die Atmosphäre ansonst echt gut war.

We kwamen hier toevallig gisteravond (vrijdag) terecht. Gezellige kroeg / restaurant met daarachter een arena waar die avond de 'young guns ' aan het trainen waren op wilde stieren. Is iedere woensdag en vrijdag vanaf 19 uur. Grote wedstrijden in de weekends. Helaas niet het weekend dat wij hier nog zijn.Je waant je in Texas!!!

Kroeg en eten met daar achter een Arena!! Wat een leuk vermaak! Paarden, stieren, alles wordt hier bereden! Gewoon komen, voor iedereen leuk!
