Can be seen from a viewing platform near the car park, but make the effort to walk the approx 200 steps down (and back of course) to the water below and experience nature fully. Well worth it.
The sign tells you 30 min return and despite my sister and I not being 'athletic' (I have asthma and bad knees) we timed our return trip and it was only 15 mins! There is a viewing platform just a very short walk from the car park and then proper stairs with a rail the whole way down to the waterfalls where you can have a seat at the viewing platform. Its a beautiful spot and worth the drive. The drive is partially on grave roads and is sometimes closed during winter but even in January there was lots of water going over the falls.
these falls were great the day we went because we were lucky enough to have some good rain fall earlier.
This is probably not the first waterfall you would think of to visit in the area but in my opinion one of the most beautiful mainly due to its surroundings. The access road is gravel and a few minutes from the larger Beauchamp Falls in the area. The carpark is quite small so getting there early in the day is a good idea. The platform for upper falls is only 30m from the carpark but the walk down to lower platform is very worthwhile. The view from lower platform is amazing. Be ware of the track as it is all steps so uphill can be a workout.
This waterfall was beautiful, walk to the bottom the view from the platform is insignificant compared to the view below. Fantastic, photographers dream!
this is a beautiful waterfall! lots of stairs down into the bottom (i think the kids counted 200 steps). The view from the bottom is incredibly pretty. we took our three kids (8, 6 and 3) I was a bit worried about how much they would whinge going back up, but they were fine :)
We drove up to Hopetoun Falls from Apollo Bay via Taunton's Track, which was absolutely spectacular in itself. There is clear signage to the Hopetoun Falls, and we found it easily. It had rained (and hailed) quite heavily the previous day but the unsealed road to the Hopetoun Falls (Binns Road) was passable. There is ample car parking at Hopetoun Falls, and the first viewing platform is about 20 steps from the car park. The view from this platform is obstructed by trees, but it is still quite lovely and people with mobility issues would be able to reach it and enjoy the view of the waterfall. The track to the base of the waterfall is approximately 500 metres, and it is quite steep in places. It is well marked, and there are lots of stairs to negotiate until you reach the valley floor, where a well-constructed boardwalk leads you to the viewing platform at the base of the waterfall. The walk was well worth it for the view of the waterfall cascading over the cliff and into the Aire River below. Our children (4 and 6) were very impressed with the waterfall and the river, as were we. A beautiful, tranquil area, and worth taking a look.We returned to Apollo Bay via Binns Road and the Californian Redwood plantation (worth stopping and taking a look!), seeing wallabies and rosellas on the way back.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. We took the long road to getting here but was a lovely windy drive. The first instant there is a platform as you walk the track but worth every step to go to the bottom. It your not fit may take a little longer as the steps are quite steep. Easy getting down but hard getting back up just take your time. The road back to Apollo Bay is great (and well looked after by roads people) even though it's gravel all the way back to great ocean road, take your time and enjoy the scenery.
A very very beautiful waterfall. It took approx 20 mins drive through unsealed road from Otway Fly to reach Hopetoun Falls. The walk down to the viewing platform has approx 200 steps but the steps are pretty high compared to normal stairs. Best time to visit would be after a couple of days' raining probably in Winter. There is an upper viewing platform but it's broken as of April 2013. Note that there aren't that many parking space (can hold approx 10 cars) but I don't believe it's that busy anyway.Do check with Parks Victoria website before visit to find out if the falls is open or not.
This is a lovely walk. On the way in it is all down hill so expect a good work out on the way out. One of the great walks in the otways that you can take dogs. Love it
Great place . amazing photos and the steps are not too bad. I would recommend also the Erskine and triplet falls too
It is about a 30 minute hike among huge tree ferns. A totally different rainforest from others we had recently explored in Australia. We looked for the carnivorous Otway Snail, but only found one shell. The falls were lovely, and worth the hike down.
