Couldn't believe how busy it was inside! We picked some strawberries which were delicious, it was very muddy though. The food looked good as it was coming out. The facilities were all quite dated but all in all a good little stop off. Would like to rate it 3.5/5 as it's probably "good", not "very good"
We took a drive to the Big Strawberry one stinking hot day and were pleasantly surprised at how big the cafe is there. All the staff were very friendly and even though there were lots of people there before us, it didn't take long for our food to arrive. I must admit, I suffered "food envy" - I ordered a "summer salad" which was lovely (and healthy!!!) with lots of salad and strawberries mixed through - but when I looked across at my husband's Strawberry Pancakes I thought to myself "I know what I'm having next time!!!". Yes, there will be a next time, it's worth stopping in and having a wander around.
Went in December, just prior Christmas. The strawberry paddock was small and there were no strawberries to pick (mainly green); the ground was soaking wet as well, therefore couldn’t do strawberry picking. Would have been good to have some warning prior to making the trip especially for this purpose! The inside is quite worn out and old. Chairs, tables and the atmosphere is a little depressing and not warm and inviting. A little disappointing as the brochure looked very inviting, but the actual premises were not.The children’s playground was old, rusty, tiny and unsafe; especially with the small trampoline being old school with a missing/broken rusty spring. Not impressed. Ate pancakes, which were acceptable but resembled pancake parlour mass produced style with no individual twist on them. The main visitors seemed to be pensioners who arrive by bus, with many tourists leaving a little disappointed.
biggest burgers ever. party of 8 people stopped at the big strawberry for lunch and everyone was blown away by the quality of food ranging from pancakes, burgers, focaccia and obviously strawberries. With plenty of gifts and souvenirs for everyone
If you believe in quality not quantity this isn't the place for you. The big strawberry has all things big including price tags. It is showy and pitched at tourists. During a recent visit I bought three punnnets of what looked like nice strawberries only to find that two good ones were on the top and were concealing the over ripe mushy ones on the bottom. Not impressed!
If its early in the season - say October- November - and you want to pick strawberries - Get Here Early ! as the strawberries that are allocated for that day and are often gone by noon and the kids may be disappointed if that's why you want to come - Although I cant see a problem in the heights of summer though when there should be plenty of strawberries around.Outside there is a giant fibreglass strawberry where there is a photo opp for the kids - or adults! The playground is basic - but its there to let the kids let off steam while parents can enjoy a cuppa or cold drink inside the air conditioned shed. There is quite a choice on the menu ranging from a snack to full meals - foccacias burgers fries and sandwiches and more - and plenty of ice cream and various toppings - While it was a welcome respite from the driving to me it was a bit of a disappointment really- Not sure what we expected but it while it is a friendly family run business it is still a commercial enterprise selling everything and anything at every turn. There are plenty of items to purchase - from wines, liqueurs and sauces and jams not only from here but from local producers as well as souvenirs and gadgets . Parking is plentiful - try and find a tree to get shade under though if its a sunny day. Entry is free and it makes an interesting side trip if you are in the area - I would not suggest it is worth a 200 km round trip as there must be plenty more strawberry farms nearer to where you are if you are that far away.
We stopped in here on the way south to buy a kg of strawberries & they were excellent. On the way back north we had coffee & a strawberry pancake. Pancake great, coffee average.Still with good parking & a large, cool, cafe we would stop in again -- the strawberries are worth it.
Recently visited the Big Strawberry. Cool place on a hot day, with a good selection on the menu. The strawberry sundae was fantastic! Loads of strawberries, home made strawberry ice cream and fresh cream - lucky we were sharing! Kids playground in full sun so grandkids couldn't go out and play as the equipment was too hot! Lots of jams and other products, the strawberry jam is good! A good place for a touristy visit!
Nice setup and a cool place / shed to escape the heat.many of the jams and others products seemed expensive. The Kids playground out front was basic and run down, to the point of potentially being dangerous. It is also located in the full sun
Always great food, great hours when hoing to melbourne. We actually booked our accom in Tocumwal so that we could be here for breakfast. I always recommend the strawberry to mates who are passing thru.
Went there to buy some product and left with nothing because the service wasn't there. There were about 5 staff and only 4 other customers in the place.Went there about 10 years ago and thought it was wonderful, don't know if its the end of the season but won't be back.Sad to see the decline.
Bought 10 jars of Strawberry jam. Why? Because they were the freshest and tastiest strawberry jam I've ever eaten. Definitely try their strawberry pancakes.
Went here two days in a row as the strawberry pancakes were so good. Make sure you have 'the Works'!!! A pleasant place to stop at with lots of strawberry products for sale. RV friendly.
