We stopped here for 5 minutes on our way from lakes entrance to the buchan caves. I'm rating it 5 stars since it's easy to get to and free so very worth the stop!
Nice photo spot. Very tranquil. The road through the forest was quite nice too. Make sure you put your insect repellent on though!
Amazing piece of engineering in a bygone era! The history relating to this bridge just wouldn't be acceptable today & the fact the bridge is still standing is a testament to all who built it.
This is an interesting side trip if you are visiting Lakes Entrance or Buchan Caves. The turnoff from the Nowa Nowa Road is not easy to spot although it is signposted. WE have a 4WD but the unsealed road is OK for normal sedans. The drive to the bridge is not long. There are several viewing points and you can walk up to the top of the bridge but not across it - not safe and barricaded.
It was really interesting to read the history of the bridge and be able to walk around to take photos.
Worth the turn on the main road, and the 3 km drive down the dirt track to see this pretty amazing testament to hard work and ingenuity. You probably won't need a long time here, but the surrounding forest is wonderful, and would make for a peaceful place to have a picnic lunch or the like.
interesting history the bridge was worth a look great bush setting only about 3klms from the main roads.
Really interesting old structure. We stopped on our way back from Buchan caves and glad we made the effort. Sign is easy to miss so keep your eyes open. Amazing what could be achieved by man power.
I can't believe that for over 50+ years I've been travelling past this road sign on the highway and never dropped in until just a few days ago. This structure is truly spectacular in the middle of nowhere and you can only marvel how these old timers and with their engineering skills and supreme work ethics could have erected this massive wooden structure.I do believe that the "roadside advertising" (if we dare to call it), does nothing for this attraction to inform tourists of such a marvel of engineering. Not to be missed and don't waste a lifetime to finally see what's there.
This is a must see century old engineering feat. 2kms from Nowra nowra , 20 kms from lakes entrance. There are two viewing areas one at almost top of bridge height the other at the base. The trestle bridge has withstood fire and strangely enough has had no vandalism. Disabled parking and bush toilet available , not modern but adequate.
This old bridge is a very spectacular. It can be reached buy car or bike. For safety reasons you can't walk on the bridge, however, the viewing platforms off to the side at either end give a really good view and feel about the place.
you can get up really close to the bridge and walk around the area. The road is gravel, but well maintained, A very interesting place
Definitely worth checking out if you are driving through the area, it is off the main road and approx. 3km along a dirt road, you don't need a 4wd to access. This rail road bridge was built in 1914. The weir is a further 2km further along the dirt road and is not sign posted until you are actual at the site, the weir is not as spectacular as the bridge.
fantastic bridge worth going to see, amazing what could be done in the early days without the equipment we have now to build bridges
We travelled off the road for about 3klms and turned the corner to see this amazing bridge. 20 meters high and so long. The track we travelled on was a good bush track and we were in a station wagon. We took lots of photos and just couldn't get over how this had been constructed nearly 100 years ago in the middle of the bush. We then drove further along this bush track to head to Bruthen. Highly rated for a piece of history. Take the children and let them be amazed as we were.
