Great train ride i think adults enjoy this as much as the kids. It travels through some beautiful bush & its a credit to the wonderful volunteers who keep it running.
Young, old, family, couple or solo, this is a great experience. The train takes 30 minutes to travel from Walhalla to Thomson along a wonderfully restored track over numerous bridges and through the bush, following Stringer's Creek. The volunteers clearly love their work and they do a great job.
Cute little restored old world train, with several carriages that follows the stream for about 30 minutes each way. Staffed by volunteers, they do an exceptional job with genuine reproduction tickets, and conductors aboard to tell the local history.
This is the best heritage railway trip I have been on. It is 20 minutes each way with a 20 minute break while the engine is moved for the reverse trip. The volunteers are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I am amazed that more that a century ago the tracks could be laid in such a difficult terrain
We enjoyed a lovely time aboard the historic train. The scenery was amazing and the staff very friendly. The journey to the Thomson Station took twenty minutes. We had to disembark there whilst they turned the train around. Whilst there you can buy a drink or an ice cream. There is time to go for a walk to the river. Then it was time to do the return journey, all good. I would highly recommend the trip. Not sure what it costs for others but as pensioners we paid $15 per head. Well worth it.
Good quick trip of about 20 minutes then about 20 minutes before the train returns long enough for small kids not to get to bored good scenery all about you can even take the family pet for a ride
The scenery is stunning especially through the gorge & up over the Thomson River. The staff, who are all volunteers, are friendly & informative. Well worth a visit
Beautiful old train. Fantastic views of the steep-sided valley with cascading creek below, all the way to the Thomson River, where you rest for 10 mins. before going back again. Stunning.
It's a cute little railway but the star of the show is the deep gorge through which it runs. Spectacular scenery and a fun way to spend an hour or so.
We had a day out at Walhalla. interesting old town with plenty of history. We decided to take the train ride and asked if our dog could come, answer was yes, the staff at the station were very pleasant and accommodating telling great local stories. The scenery had great views of the river below and large ferns and trees above. The train ride was a little bit more adventurous coming back down than going up. A great town to visit, walking, sitting near the river, taking the train ride or just enjoying the views and history. We would recommend a visit, not too far from Melbourne.
The walhalla light show was a great night. Lovely little village. Lots of history whilst walking around. Long drive, but well worth the visit. Plenty to see. Lots of great little shops.
Took my family along with my parents to Walhalla. Mum and Dad are in there last seventies. We had a perfect day with beautiful weather. The staff at the station where all very freindly and helpful. The train left on time and the trip was breath taking with lovely views. While the track runs along side the river it is very naroow and with many sharp curves. The trip takes 40 minutes one way with the whole trip taking almost 2 hours return.
a hour trip 20min each way plus 20min stop over , bring your own water refreshments , sit on far side of train to get the best view of the valleys
I loved the railway as it followed the creek to Thompson river nestled into the side of the mountain. A 20 minute journey to Thomson then a 20min wait while we skimmed stones underneath the bridge the back again. Ensure you sit on the river side of the train to enjoy the views otherwise its a little boring staring at a rock wall.
Had a terrific return train ride from walhalla to Thompson River. Friendly staff and a really enjoyable trip this lovely terrain. An hour for the return trip leaving 3 times a day on weekends (11am, 1pm and 3pm), except during winter when the 3pm doesnt run
