We walked unsure of what to expect and came out with something we will never forget. Better if you know the Ned Kelly story to begin with as its not very educational. But it's certainly one of a kind. The Disney Room is confusing haha
Hosting a German & 2 Canadian guests for xmas we decided to take them to this show whilst in Glenrowan. There were 8 adults in our party and a Japanese couple made up the rest of the group. The cost $240 was the first shock and then a concern re the mental health of the owner. Nevertheless we perservered into the first room which was supposed to be the waiting room at Flinders St station. It looked like a ghouls cellar which I'm sure young children would run screaming from. The theatricals in here told us nothing about Ned Kelly and we were left wondering what this was all about when we were ushered into room 2, a bar scenario. Here the weird theatricals continued without any scene setting. Loud noises and random comments from the mannikins which, were unintelligible, had us laughing in derision. Our international guests had no idea what was going on and nor did the Aussies and we know the story!!Out side for more nonsense then into the final room for a rendition of Such is Life and a mannikin dropping through the roof for the hanging. The lunatic running the show then reappeared and proceeded to usher us through a bedroom full of disney toys and ranted on about how bad the museum and other attractions and people in Glenrowan were, accusing them of stealing his property, and how he had only authentic Kelly memorabelia in his show. ( Not that we noticed any). He continued to rave on how he has to live onsite to protect his property from the locals who constantly attempt to break in and steal his stuff!!!I was embarrassed to have subjected my guests to this rubbish and also for the Japanese couple, who were clearly not impressed by paying to see this show, and were leaving none the wiser re the Ned Kelly gang.
Travelling through Vic we decided to stop in at Glenrowan for a night and ended up staying 2. We did the whole tourist thing of the town. Wow we were not disappointed by the museum, tourist centre cafe's and most of all the very friendly locals. Couldn't ask for a better stay. The tourist centre was a must we just loved the Anamatronic show, so well done and very informative. Thanks Bob and Jess for a wonderful introduction to Glenrowan.
We were enticed into the place while visiting Glenrowan to show our kids some of the history of the area and in particularly the legend of the Kelly gang. Sadly, this show would be much better if it had more of the history of the Kelly gang that could actually be heard and understood rather than the drivel in the first room. This was followed by a comical attempt at Ned in the bar room of the pub divulging his trouble with the law etc etc, followed by a 'shootout' between police and the Kelly gang blah blah. Pretty boring stuff as per the other reviews on this forum and overpriced for what was on offer. After the hanging of Ned and stuff dropping through the ceiling in what we thought was the final room, we went through the Disney memorabilia room, a sort of 'what is this and what does it have to do with Ned Kelly?? room.' Apparently, according to the delicate young grandson of the owner, this is to "take our minds off all the blood and gore scenes and to take us to a more happy place..."?? The old fella at the counter reminds me of an ageing car salesman telling of how much money his place brings in, how many schoolkids come through and how it rivals Disney for its attractiveness, followed up by his grandson in divulging how the 'attraction' burnt down 12 years ago and had to be rebuilt, maybe it would have been better to have left it in ruins. This may have been better when first commissioned, but maybe not, the cobwebs and dust we assumed to be a part of the setting, but this place is in need of a spruce up in a large way. NOT recommended for young kids, OVERPRICED for what it is. Probably a bit better than TERRIBLE but VERY close to it..
For my two children and myself it cost $68.00 and that shocked me a little bit and I was worried it was not going to be money well spent - WRONG! We loved it. It was different and a bit quirky story telling but I really felt like I got a trip back in time. Everything about this show was interesting and unique and well done. I would highly recommend but for little children it would be a bit loud and scary in some parts (they do give you this warning).
My family and I have stayed in Glenrowan many times over the years. My daughter came to like this attraction over 10 years ago and we have been there several times.Maybe it is because of our history here and being able to see how the attraction has grown from 3 stages to the current 5 and the absolute passion the owner has towards the clever electronics that drive the show means it is hard for me to be critical. However, when I read the large number of "terrible" reviews, I was surprised yet able to appreciate why they are written. The show is nothing more than entertainment for families with some scarier bits to keep the children honest! Because we have been to Glenrowan so much, we may have a better understanding of the Ned Kelly Story than some. The show does tell the story of Ned Kelly and certainly follows the plot of movies made on Ned Kelly. As mentioned by another reviewer, it is Aussie in nature and you need to find some of the little bits of humour in the show (especially the scene in the pub). Each of our visits has resulted in us seeing new bits added since our previous time.I certainly agree that the entry price for a family is steep at $77 for 40 minutes. There have been times when not all of my family have gone in to save money but we did all on this visit as we learnt that the lifetime of work put into this attraction by the owner is now complete. It may be our last visit. Maybe the owner should seriously consider better family packages.I think a visit at least once is worthwhile despite the cost. You can compare the price to other places but I doubt you will find anything like this elsewhere in the world!
I have been to this attraction previously...about 9 years ago. It has been updated and upgraded..it is pricey BUT it's very entertaining. This is Australian humour at it's best. Tongue in cheek. It tells the story of Ned in a humour filled way. I am glad we stopped in and spent time there. The last room was odd...but the owners grandson explained it was his bedroom. Really! His grandfather takes him every year to Disneyland and he collects something new. This boy's toy collection should be the envy of all other children.
It was weird. We were heading over and heard the clanging bell announcing 4 mins to showtime. The foyer looks quite quaint and old timey. The owner came out and started the spiel 'not a picture theatre, an animated robotic show better than Disneyland'. Then i saw the price $77 bucks for family of four with two young kids.He kept on his spiel and then I knew this was just completely uncool and freaky. The kids started spinning out when I said no and he stepped up the Disneyland thing. Then I explained we visited the whole of disneyworld in japan for not that much more than that and even the 5yr old agreed then it was a crazy price. Now I read the other reviews I feel I would have loved it for its awfulness but not at that price, which is clearly highway robbery that I am sure Ned would not have approved of!
Absolutely the worst thing I have ever watched. At over $90 for a family of 4 it's a total rip off. Also it's quite confronting for younger kids. Our 9 year old was so scared of the first room but we didn't know how to get out to leave. Can someone please explain the creepy last room with double bed and huge flat screen T.V? Weird doesn't even come close to what we experienced.
Biggest waste of money ever! $110 for a family of five. The whole show was bad...stay away. I wish we checked TripAdvisor before entering this creepy, dodgey and ridiculous attraction, wasted 40 minutes of my family's life! The last room was like walking through Michael Jackson's Neverland bedroom. It was like being in an episode of The Twilight Zone.
This attraction uses a legend to get you through the front door but the only legendary thing about this attraction is how bad it is. It is over priced, not realistic and is a poor representation of events. Dont waste your money!!!!!!!
This place is hilarious. It's an absolutely endearing, interesting, once-in-a-lifetime experience. I went here with my husband and we enjoyed every minute... it's not a slick, polished touristy thing... it's more like a quaint, quirky show that you won't see anywhere else because it's this guy's pride and joy, and has been put together over so many years. It's like every time an animal dies in Glenrowan, they stuff it and add it to the display! It's a magnificent effort and we couldn't stop laughing... this place will make your day. If you like 'The Castle' you'll love this place.
This was an absolute HOOT! The mechanical characters were outrageous and their scratchy voices thundering amongst the cheesy sound effects kept us howling the whole time. Several times during the experience, a computer or mechanical glitch would take place and the owner would have to sneak out from behind a scene to remedy things, like the Wizard of Oz working his magic behind his green velvet curtains. Truly one of the hokiest roadside attractions I have ever been to in a GREAT way! If you're a Mystery Space Theatre 3000 fan, you'll love this adventure! Don' miss it when you are in Glenrowen.
If you have an interest in Ned Kelly then this is the place for you. It provides some historical information on Ned Kelly's time in the area to his capture and hanging. Although a lot of effort and money has gone into this display it is a bit slow. It might suit children in a particular age group but I found the talking dummies a bit boring. The gun fight area was completely underwhelming, particularly when the first thing we see is a person doing repairs and painting which was distracting from the display, better timing is needed for this type of activity. It would be worth a visit if the price was halved. The activity is wheelchair accessible.
took my dad from QLD and $ 50 dollars for the both of us to get in. the voices are hard to hear over the grinding sounds of the machines. it should have been a warning to us to read the "NO REFUNDS GIVEN" on a sign out the front. needs a some repairs desperately to ensure the kelly story is told correctly, and not masked behind the crap effects of the show.
