Entry for two adults and one child was around $17 from memory. This includes rods and bait. Different ponds available to fish from with trout and salmon of various sizes. Whatever you catch you must keep, and pay for by the kilo. There are signs at each pond telling you what fish are in there, and how much per kilo your catch will be. They clean your catch for free, and if you want your fish filleted, the staff do this for you for $3.50 per fish. I caught a 1.75kg atlantic salmon at $24/kg and had it filleted....so entry for two adults and one child, a juice box, a biscuit, rods, bait, four fish, cleaned and filleted and two hours of fun cost us around $155....so not a cheap day out for a family if you are budget conscious and everyone wants to catch a fish.....but you are guaranteed to catch fish for dinner, and the little ones have allot of fun doing so....the staff are really friendly and helpful, there is also a playground for the kids....can recommend this activity for some family fun.

We took our grandchildren (ages 9 & 6) to the trout farm to give them the experience of catching fish (guaranteed) and later cooking what they had caught. What a great experience! For them, the thrill of the hunt, and for us the sheer excitement. The whole experience is very easy - a short drive from Melbourne - everything within the park is well organised. Fishing rods, bait etc. and expert, friendly staff to advise and supervise. Sam was our expert - charming, extremely patient and with a permanent smile. The children caught a variety of fish including Rainbow Trout, Golden Trout and Atlantic Salmon - the biggest almost 3 Kilos.....seemed like a whale to 6 yo Paddy.All fish can be cleaned and gutted ready for cooking. This is highly recommended.

Easily accessible from the eastern suburbs. Numerous fish ponds stocked with good sized trouts and salmons. Difficulty ranging from extremely difficult "challenge" pond to well stocked ponds where no luck or skills are required. The salmons gave the best fights and were constantly biting. Facilities excellent with numerous picnic tables and portable BBQ. Playground and spacious grass field allow wide range of outdoor activities. During busy times be mindful of the fish handed back to you after cleaning as the shed can become chaotic with orders. Staff are friendly and enthusiastic, except for some (of the older generation) who may do with a bit of smiling and show some customer appreciation!

A good one hour plus drive from Melbourne to the Dandenongs. Entry is $5 and you can borrow the fishing rod for free as well as the the BBQ pits.Only took a couple of minutes for the kids to catch the trouts. Price range from $16 to 20 per kg. Cleaning is free, but they charge $3.50 to fillet.Make sure you bring a full picnic basket with drinks, salad, and all the spices/marinade for the fish.For kids, they have have playground and turkeys and chooks roaming around

Got there at 1550hrs, and we're informed that while the park closes at 1700hrs, the ponds close at 1630hrs to give some time for your catch to be cleaned and filleted etc. We were assured that we'd definitely catch a trout in our 40 minutes, so we just bit the bullet and did it (reasonable entrance fee for everyone regardless of whether you fish or not; 3 and under FOC) No regrets!We had 2 kids younger than 6yo in our group and while the younger wasn't keen, the older one had a go. Everything's provided - rods, bait and all. Caught a fish within a minute, lost some bait to a few wily ones, and caught a couple more. 3 trout at the end of 40 minutes, 2.3kg in total, with one rod. Had them cleaned (free) and filleted (pay for this) and put them with ice (you have to buy this) in our cooler bag (bring your own!)Kids weren't overly fond of the fishing, but LOVED the playground and the big open space in which to play ball (bring your own!). The adults liked the shaded picnic benches where we could eat our cherries & strawberries and quiche (self-provided). Weather was great! There's no cafe there, but there is a BBQ pit. Didnt get to try the mini-golf. Maybe next time around.Conclusion : Good for families with young kids who can afford the time for a lazy afternoon. Not so good for families who have a packed itinerary and are trying to squeeze as much as possible in a day. Future plan : Drive 1.5h from Melbourne city, fish for trout, bbq the fish there for lunch (with a prepared picnic basket etc), and let the kids run off all their energy, then drive home with them napping in the car. Voila! A perfect lazy day out.

Live in NSW and visited 3 times. Most recently went with a large group of friends. Natural pond for real fishing and highly populated ones for when your hungry now. Can take your catch home with your or cook it there ( BBQs provided bring your own cooking gear ).Great fun, byo or purchase there. Scrumptious product, if your not sure of what fish you feel like ask the staff what's in the pond. Well priced, if you catch a $50 salmon and you didn't want it your an idiot. The team there will tell you the variety and sizes in the pond so its your own fault :)

We went up to the trout farm to celebrate a birthday of our late father/father-in-law who would have turned 100 in May 2014 because he was an avid trout fisherman we decided to celebrate at the Trout farm. We all found the trout farm and set about catching fish from the ponds.The venue is great with lots of undercover tables and plenty of BBQ. The downside was that due to rain the previous day the ground was a little muddy but we had gone prepared with boots.As you pay the entrance fee it is explained about the fishing that what you catch you pay for so no fish no pay. I would imagine in summer it would become a little crowded. All in all we had a great day out.

We just came back from this beaut' little fish farm for my hubby's birthday. Took out three young children who had an absolute ball learning about the concept of fishing. Rainbow trout is very reasonably priced but beware catching a golden trout as they are much larger but still, it's worth it for a bigger fish. We will definitely be back as the advanced fishing lake ( which is for the more skilled fishing person) playground, geese, ducks, chooks, kiosk and BBQ facilities easily make a wonderfully entertaining day out for just about everyone. The staff are great and helpful too and we had no probs with them. As a mother who seeks to find ways of teaching and entertaining her kids, this farm ticks all the boxes and won't disappoint! :-)

Really lovely location. Be careful with how many fish you catch as the costs can rack up really quickly. Prices per kilo are along the same price as the stores so you really pay for the privilege. Fishing equipment is pretty good so no probs there.Feels like a nice family business, would go back but only if I need the fish as you must pay for what you catch.

We took our son specifically to a farm to experience catching a fish by himself....had been fishing for all of 5 minutes when the guy working there threw in some bait next to where my son was fishing!(not a problem might make fish bite said thanks to him) he then came back threw a line in next to my 11 year old, the worker caught a fish (a big salmon mind you at like $24 a kg)he reeled it in... handed my son the fish which was slippery so it jumped out of his hands the man knocked it on the heah a few times to kill it! handed to my son with blood around its mouth and said here is your fish!!!! my husband said thanks mate and explained we are actually here for my son to catch his own fish and experience it himself as he was excited to do so and disappointed the man gave him the fish! my son was too polite to not accept it! the worker said well your son took it.....really he is 11 and polite and was handed a fish. it all happened so quickly! end result we had to pay $60 for that massive salmon and pay $3.50 each fish to fillet plus you have to pay to get in the park! and BEWARE no throwing back allowed! which is fine if you get the joy out of actually catching your own fish!! would not recommend at all, its a money making scam that pray on the young children who dont know any better!!!

We stumbled across the Australian Rainbow Trout Farm on our way home from a lovely weekend in Healesville. It was one of those impulse stops we seem to be very good at - one of my favourite things to do actually is just drive and see where the wind takes us... Anyway, I digress!So, the farm is situated in country Victoria - definitely pay attention to the road signs (put your GPS away) - as they are quite clear and will lead you easily there. The farm itself is rather "loved" - but that's where the value for money is. The facilities are basic but abundant - plenty (and I mean heaps) of BBQ's where familes can cook and feed their brood their lovely fish. Playground and some chickens also wandering around - definitely good for occupying the kidlets - and one of the cheapest options I'd think too. If you planned correctly, you could easily spend 3-4 hours there - not a bad idea for a family gathering at all, in my opinion.To the fishing! As mentioned by earlier reviewers - there's several types of fish, and degrees of difficulty. What I loved was the advanced pond at the front of the park. You could, in theory, spend a couple of hours there yourself (and yes they have a licenced bar) quite easily. It's pretty, away from the BBQ'ers, and there's fish in there somewhere. Nothing like a challenge!All in all, this place was well worth the $7.00 entry and the $20.00 we spent on 2 Rainbow Trout that fed 3 of us very very easily. I'd suggest it's one of the cheapest of it's kind in Australia. Staff are friendly but not overbearing - and watching the boys clean and fillet the fish is fascinating in itself. Definitely suggest either randomnly stopping by as we did, or planning a family / friends lunch should it be within driving distance. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Just loved the whole concept, took the granchildren and wished I could have fished by myself as I would have had a ball.

We've been coming to the Australian Rainbow Trout Farm in Macclesfield for over 12 years and never tire of it. The surroundings - the bush, the kangaroos, the chickens and the birds that inhabit the trees surrounding the farm - are beautiful and tranquil.The farm has three ponds - one containing trout 500g or less, the other over 500g and a salmon pond (trout is about $17 a kilo, salmon about $30). There is also a trout stocked lake; the fish in this lake take longer to catch. The farm supplies the rods (or you can bring your own) and bait. It takes about 5 minutes to catch a fish and you must keep what you catch. There are bbqs scattered around the farm so bring your picnic set and cook your fish once you catch it (or just take it home!) The kids can play on the playground or chase the chickens which are sometimes let loose. There is also an old farm dog that wanders around sometimes looking for scraps. He is large but totally harmless. The farm charges a minimal entrance fee - $6 for adults, $4.50 for children at time of writing.The farm is perfect for all ages and beautiful day out with the family. The drive through the Dandenongs and the animals at the park make it a perfect Victorian tourist attraction.
