I had a wonderful time at Highwood Health Retreat. I stayed for 10 nights to complete their Recovery From Depression/CHIP programs in October 2013. Both programs were extremely beneficial to me.The staff are friendly and are dedicated to your wellness, whatever your reason for being there. The food is completely vegan and was so delicious that I have opted to continue eating this way long term. The hands-on cooking demonstrations showed me how easy it is to actually prepare the food yourself. The retreat itself is set on a huge property which enables lots of nature walks and even some wildlife spotting in the mornings and evenings. The scenery is amazing and is full of rolling hills, forest and beautiful wildflowers. They do advertise on their website that they are a Christian-based retreat, and whilst I found it a bit overwhelming at first, they were very sensitive of the fact that I was not a Christian and made it very clear that any of the spiritual sessions were optional and it was completely up to me if I wanted to attend them. I understand they will begin renovating the treatment rooms in December of this year so it will be lovely to be able to visit again and see the updates.
I had an interesting time. I was there for improving my health. The health lectures were very good, the food was very nice and staff friendly. The place could do with a revamp to be a bit more modern considering the price you pay. I'm a Christian so the christain experience wasn't so unsettling; however if they could tone that down it would be much better. I felt for some of the other guests as they told me they weren't enjoying this part of the programme. Overall if you want to improve your health due to any lifestyle diseases then it will help.
My experience at the Highwood Health Retreat was very positive. The atmosphere of the peaceful surroundings, friendly staff and great vegetarian food was certainly a highlight for me. I found that they have informative health lectures and focus on a healthy lifestyle like diet, exercise, water, etc. to achieve the best health. I enjoyed the social environment with guests and staff and found the accommodations very comfortable. I highly recommend Highwood to those looking to improve their health in a place as beautiful as the Highwood Health Retreat.
Highwood Health Retreat is a peaceful natural retreat. As soon as we arrived here, we noticed the wonderful fresh air and relaxing environment. The people are all very kind and sincerely happy to meet our needs. The vegetarian food is well prepared with lots of fresh fruits and veggies from the garden. Their natural treatments of massage and hydrotherapy are unique and therapeutic like fever baths to improve the immune system and massage to relieve pain including the aromatherapy oils which add to the treatments. They are faith-based, but in a kind, non-overbearing way. We enjoyed learning about nutrition and a healthier lifestyle. I want to live my life to the fullest and Highwood has helped me in that direction - Thank-you!
The website advertises this place as a health retreat. Unfortunately it is actually more like an ex- retirement village turned Christian camp. I booked in for a couples clay wrap, spa and massage session. We were put in separate rooms and endured the religious dogma in the shower, bibles and praying. Upon completion of the treatment we were taken to a waiting area and random people were walking in and out looking at us and talking about some expensive $2000 cooking machine they were selling. It was very strange and completely not what we were paying for. We wasted $340. I am concerned for people in the area who are suffering and will be perhaps booking into the facility for health retreat programs but who will be unaware they are entering a Christian facility. I think in a multicultural modern society everyone has the right to know if they are about to be exposed to religious dogma. I think it is disappointing that they can not be honest on their website. It really was an incredibly awkward experience. Not ok.
