I came to Fort Queenscliff with my school group today on a beautiful Autumn's day! Margaret was an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable about the content she was presenting and very passionate about it. She did excellently with creating rapport with us as a tour group and even related what she was presenting to our studies, which was fantastic and really helpful. All aspects of the tour were fascinating and presented in such a way that kept me engaged and interested. Fantastic work to Margaret - keep up the great work :)
We visited the fort with four children aged between five and ten. The guide was great, engaging the children and keeping it very interesting for them. The tour lasted 90 minutes and was well worth the price of entry.
What a wonderful family activity it was to visit the Fort. We took our 7 & 10 year old boys and they were captivated by the history and previous operations of the site. The tour guide Paul was warm and exceptionally knowledgable. We were greeted by happy and courteous security and customer service staff. The front gate is a little hard to figure out but essentially the green gates on King Street are on open at the tour times and closes immediately the tours start. There is no signage that says wait here for the tour guides but if your there 10mins before tours you will not miss out.Kids absolutely loved the dress up in uniforms at the end of the tour. Excellent and affordable value for money and amazing views of Port Phillip Bay. Even got to see the Spirit of Tasmania coming through the heads during day sail in summer 3pm tours. Museum is worth a look.
I found it enjoyable. .. but don't bring kids... they were bored quickly and took away some of the experience.
fantastic and informative tour! Highly recommend for the history buffs as well as those who want to see different parts of the bay from a diff angle! Loved the underground section of the tour!
Have stayed in queenscliff a number of times but never been to the fort. Went on a guided tour which was very informative and well worth the entry fee. Great views of port phillip heads.Recommend as part of visit to queenscliff
My 6 year old daughter loved our trip. Allow a good 2 hrs. Tour guides fantastic and local... Genuine museum worth supporting. Wear comfortable shoes
If you like and enjoy history, then you will not be disappointed with this museum. For a nominal fee (especially) for a family of 4, you get a well versed tour guide who takes you around the fort for 1.5 hours, explaining history with a sense of humour.Half of the fort is still actively used and the Australian army, navy and air force spend some nights on the grounds. Hence, 1 or 2 tours are run on weekends and public holidays only.
Having lived near Queenscliff for 0ver 60 years, we had never visited the fort,so school Holidays offered us a chance to take the Grandsons for a visit,it was well worth it,They ran from one item to another,so a happy few hours were spent looking at History and Army Guns and the Museum all very worthwhile. We finished by having a large parcel of the best Fish and Chips overlooking the rip, and watched a couple of big Tankers being escorted thru by the local Pilot Guides, another fascination for the boys, then a trip along the main street thru the many lovely shops, Our boys also bought some second hand books , from a shop in the old local Church. We arrived for the day at 10 AM, and left the main street at around 4 PM, Promising them a trip on the Train next time, and in the summer a beach trip. They have also on another trip here enjoyed the Marine centre ,just outside of Queenscliff, where they had hand on contact with the Fish life of the bay.
The tour of the fort lasted 90 minutes and the guide was very knowledgeable. There were many historical facts that I was not aware of regarding Australia's wartime involvement.
The site has certain hours for visiting the Fort Queescliff Museum. Lots of history and an eye opener. Its a must see and has a lot of character.
I took two 8 year old boys to the fort and was concerned they may lose interest and upset others on tour (all couples). No fear! The tour guide was awesome and kept the kids interested whilst feeding both adults and kids with interesting facts, stories and showing us around. She was awesome. Would have liked to spend more time in the Museum at the end, however the next tour was due to start and we had to leave. Highly recommend this for adults and kids
Great tour of Fort Queenscliff. The guide obviously loved her job. The 1 1/2 hour tour ended up being 2 hours. Really informative, you go down into the the underground magazine, the cells and the see the black lighthouse and learn the history of the fort. The Military museum was also very interesting. $12 well spent.
Took a quick day trip to Queenscliff and found out about the Fort from a nice lady at the visitors centre. $12 for the tour is a little steep but they probably don't get many visitors so that would account for the price. Interesting tour around the grounds and our guide was very knowledgeable of the history of the fort. Well worth a trip.
