This is a lovely quiet beach mostly, but it gets much busier in the school holiday periods. Torquay township has grown exponentially in the last few years, and is now a bustling hub of essential shops, nice cafes, and various tourist venues with lots of parking and a couple of well-stocked supermarkets. There are actually 3 beaches - Fisherman's beach (quiet, no surf, long, good for walking), Torquay Front Beach - a few more waves, lovely vistas from rolling lawns, good for families and great facilities for picnics and groups, and the famous Torquay surf beach - always good waves for surfers - the younger set hang out here - but it's very chilly in winter. Torquay is a lovely place to visit, an easy drive from Geelong and Melbourne, and a lovely place to stay for a holiday.
sea is clear (probably the best spot in the surfcoast area) and waves are fantastic. awesome place to relax as well. what else?
quiet beach, not many people, nice waves, clear water. The sand was soft and felt good under foot. This beach is at the end of the Esplanade in Torquay, there is a little bumpy road to get to it.
Two great breaks in close or outter reef, worth the paddle to right of car park. Have been there on BIG days and it really pumps.
I have been to this beach several time last being January this year, surf sun and alot of fun was had on this beach and I reccommend it to all Go for a walk around the point near surf club.
But not much else other than being close to a nudist beach. Careful for those surfers here at dusk as the river mouth can often bring sharks into this area
A treat for couples, families and the off season pro-surfers. Lots of kids take up the learn-to-surf schools and bikinis cover the sand. Really love the life guard presence, not so much the sunburn from forgetting my sunscreen
Get real! The photo attached to this review is NOT Point Impossible Nudist Beach, but Alexandria Bay Noosa!Point Impossible is a 1.5km long spacious and legally gazetted clothing-optional beach situated on remnant sand dune and wide open beach terrain just east of Torquay, and separated from the nearby quiet holiday hamlet of Breamlea by Thompson Creek (also known in aboriginal literature as "The Kaaraf").Gazetted clothing optional in 1983, locals had been going to "Posso" since at least the mid-1950s. The car park is quite small but creative parking can be seen in action on hot days. This is the safer carpark to set down in; the one at Point Impossible East (toward Thompson Creek and Breamlea) is a known vandalism hot spot on weekends and during busy holiday periods and should be avoided. It also gets very busy and cluttered with surfies. When planning a trip to "Posso" in hot weather, it is essential to take a sun shelter; it can be infernally hot on the sand and if there is no sea breeze (typically from the east), conditions can be quite uncomfortable. But you can always cool down by jumping into any number of beguilingly inviting pools deep enough to immerse yourself up to the eyeballs. Rays and fish visit these pools (as do crabs); there have been no attacks from sand rays but they often are very still under the water, only moving at the last minute. The Surf Coast Shire has recently imposed a fine for people entering the sand dunes to protect sensitive vegetation and discourage lewd behaviour in the dune system. I don't agree that the vegetation is sensitive (I've been going there since the early 1980s), but constant pedestrian traffic does alter the pattern of vegetation and encourage dune slip and erosion, especially profound in its visibility at the Breamlea end. The dune system also has a number of known ancient aboriginal shell middens, one of which in transient nature is visible at the large sand hill ("Hobb's Knoll") at the eastern boundary of the beach. Police conduct regular patrols at the beach now keeping an eye out for unwelcome/predatory behaviour and also patrol the dunes, imposing $50 fines for assumed miscreants. Other than the worry of getting burnt or eyeballed, the water's fine, come on down!!A note on the road from Torquay: tThe road in from The Esplanade at Torquay can be quite rough and corrugated as the warm to hot weather progresses. The other access route, via Blackgate Road from Breamlea or from Surf Coast Highway can be several orders of magnitude rougher and dustier. Cars can also be left at White's Beach and then walk 1.5km to the western boundary that announces the clothing optional beach (pole mounted sign on beach).
Quite beach but beware it is the local Nudist Beach
