A pleasant and not to far bike ride from Yarrawonga but thought the signage in getting there could have been better
Close to town and easy walkways make this a "must" for visitors. Numerous sign boards draw attention to flora and fauna and the history of the area. Popular for dogs on lease with a water bowl along the way.
If you're a day visitor to this pleasant riverside town, you'll enjoy a walk along the foreshore east of the Visitors Centre and bridge. And if you feel like a bit more walking, go on to Chinamans Island, which is actually a promontory so is not hard to access. There is signage giving you a little historical background about the Chinese market gardeners who used to cultivate this ground. On the promontory there are walking trails, vantage points, and picnicking spots. With native vegetation and wetlands having been rehabilitated, you'll probably see some birds, especially late in the day. Our small group walked around the 'island' on a weekday afternoon, when the area was almost deserted. I understand the river/lake gets busy with yachting, waterskiing and swimming at weekends and during holidays, and there is a monthly Farmers Market near Frank Keenan Reserve.
