The gardens are small by most standards. Pleasant though with the steps and walk variations. Volunteers are very helpful. Some jiggers and cyclists outside the Gardens but nothing like Central or Hyde Parks. Peaceful. Cafe hours very limited. Some plants for sale at specified times
I have visited the gardens many times and find them terrific. This time I went to the children's playground with my daughter and grandchildren. A beautifully set out fun garden setting with loads of climbing activities and lots of items that make musical and animal noises. The pirate ship creaks appropriately and the whole area is safety gated. A lovely experience for mums and grandmas to sit while the children run around and play. /There is also a wheelchair swing.
We had a couple of hours in Geelong and decided to visit the gardens and discovered a fine treasure. The gardens are well maintained and contain plantings I was totally unfamiliar with. If you are visiting the area and have a couple of hours, put this on your "must" stops.
The Geelong Botanic Gardens house magnificent specimens of both native and foreign trees. The flowerbeds are maintained meticulously. Some specimens (such as the cactus garden) were a real surprise. This is such a lovely place for a leisurely walk. You can also get a great view of Eastern Beach by crossing the grass just opposite the entrance gates of the Botanic Gardens.
If you are looking for cool relief on a hot day, love to walk in a light spring shower of rain, see the beginning of a rainbow reflect through our native and unusual imported plants, gain inspiration for your own garden, want to picnic, play with the kids, stroll through many secret paths on an adventure of discovery, buy little or large offspring plants from the nursery, have a lovely relax, latte at the café, or simply sit with your lover and dream, then the Geelong Botanical Gardens are the perfect place for you to visit. You will be Greeted by the famous Geelong Bollard people created by the talented Jan Mitchell and the gardens are wheelchair friendly and just the right size to wander through every section during a single visit.
I love the cactus garden - stunning specimens. The whole gardens are very well maintained and offer a nice peaceful environment. They also have Jazz here in summer & you can bring a picnic which is fun.
Another must when visiting Geelong, there are some magnificent trees in this garden and the flower gardens are gorgeous. There is also a lovely cafe in the grounds.
The Botanical Gardens in Geelong are very peaceful ad quiet to visit. Plenty of shade to walk under, tours available. Not as big as other botanical gardens, but definitely worth a visit if you are near-by.
The Geelong area not only features beautiful gardens around the district. The have the beautiful botanical garden in amongst a reat park area to wander around. After leaving the gardens you can walk the track around the park area to see the splendid view of Corio Bay, Eastern Beach, East Geelong Golf Club and while you are there, why not check out the Bat Collony next to the golf course. This park has many BBQ areas so make a day of it and enjoy a snag on the BBQ.
Plenty of walks with shade make for a pleasant visit on really hot days. A wide variety of trees and shrubs together with attractive and colourful flowers make this a place not to miss.
The Botanical Gardens are a great place to have a wander. Adjacent to the Bay, it offers a relaxed atmosphere in which to appreciate the variety of trees and plants. The children's garden is particularly fun for little people.
The most impressive thing here is that the gardeners are so knowledgeable and will be delighted to talk with you about local conditions and plants. The garden is an oasis very near the city centre and should be a source of great pride.
Been going to the Geelong Botanical Gardens since I was a kid fifty years ago with my parents. It's a beautiful space with wonderful pathways. Your vision enveloped in large established garden beds with magnificent trees that just ooze beauty. A good place to get your mind straight after a hard day or week.
