They are well presented, nice and clean and have a great kids area for those wanting that. Nice and relaxing place to visit.
i expected a bigger park and it ain't! great place for locals but for visitors there is nothing much that makes it stand out at all!
A very active group has made, and continues to make, this once 'very tired' area a wonderful attraction for locals and visitors alike. ts historic features are being revitalised and at the same time many wonderful new features - natural and man-made - added. After visiting central Bendigo continue north, taking in Lake Weeroona wn route, an on reaching White Hills an archway on your left signals the entrance to the Botanic Gardens.
I noticed nothing particularly noteworthy, attractive or spectacular especially towards the end of summer when I visited.
Lovely selection of trees and flowers and centrally located, and nice place to take a leisurely stroll.
My husband and I were staying at a caravan park out at White Hills and stumbled across these botanic gardens quite by accident while out on a stroll. The modest war memorial arch on the main road hides well the expanse of land tucked away behind.Don't be confised about the name though. The Bendigo Botanic Gardens are actually out of Bendigo township in White Hills, and the gardens in Bendigo are actually called Rosalind Park.Anyway, the gardens out at White Hills are a great visit for anyone interested in historic trees and plants, which are all delightfully signed and mapped out on the brochure available at the front gate. Visitors can stand under the 100 year old picnic pavillion and imagine the use the park would have had after its inception in 1857. A bird aviary may keep the kids amused but I would prefer to see wild birds than 20 or so caged birds. The play space brings out the child in any adult, with children and adults alike able to hand pump water, play croquet or pretend to be kings and queens on the wooden thrones. I even caught my husband rustling around in the nearby vegetable garden delighting in the ripe strawberries.A garden for one (or many) and all (any age).
Lovely place for a stroll on a chilly but sunny early spring morning. There is a wooded section towards the east where hundreds of fruit bats (aka flying foxes) gather to squawk away, change posture and feast on whatever sweet things are produced or discovered.
I visited White Hills with a friend looking for her forebears' graves in the old White Hills Public Cemetery. I was confused about the old public gardens also in the White Hills area outside Bendigo city. Were they the White Hills Botanic Gardens? Not exactly. They used to be called that, but within the last few years they've been renamed the Bendigo Botanic Gardens. This renaming seems a sensible move as it'll attract more visitors. Even more sensible is the big rejuvenation effort. Old features are being restored, and new attractions and facilities are being constructed. The Gardens occupy harsh country and the botanical work obviously requires a lot of effort and perseverance. Congratulations to those doing the work and maintenance. I hope similar work is done at the White Hills cemetery sooner rather than later. It too has great historical importance and could be made more attractive and informative.
The Bendigo Botanic Gardens at White Hills are reportedly one of the oldest regional Botanic Gardens, in Victoria. They are open from 7:30am to 9pm (Daylight Savings Time) or 7:30am to 6pm (EST). These are tranquil, cool, relaxing gardens beside a river remnant Billabong. There are excellent lawn picnic area under shady trees with seating and BBQ's. A lovely playground with king and queen thrones, a croquet lawn, over-sized chess board and vegetable and water gardens for the kids. Go and spend a couple of hours enjoying nature. It's FREE!
We stopped in at Bendigo on a roadtrip, the gardens a lovely nice to wander around cool on a hot day good for a spot to sit and have a cuppa, before heading off to the pub for lunch.
Looked amazing and the freshness and smell was awesome.Well maintained and gives you a bit of excersize walking through
Beautifully kept gardens with many beautiful flowers and trees it was very hot and it was nice to sit under a tree near the lake and enjoy the cool breeze. Good for kids as well there is a tree that has a few entrances it is like a cubby house the kids would love it they can go inside and nobody can see you.
A 5 minute drive from centre of town, you will find the Botanical Gardens a tranquil place for a picnic or reading a book under a shady tree. A nice place to escape to on a hot day. No entry fee and plenty of parking.
The flowers were absolutely beautiful with well laid out paths and a huge variety of plants in flower.
Lots of car spaces alongside this Victorian Park. After a two hour drive this shaded and groomed setting is ideal for walking ,running and picnicking. Nearby is the early colonial Chinese Joss House. A must see!
