Just as it's called, definitely pretty pool, nice place to visit while in Port Hedland for the day, say off cruise ship, little drive though.
Pretty Pools is beautiful BUT every time I've gone there people have left it a mess, frequently there are people living in their vans there near the toilets and its uncomfortable to go to the toilets. The park area is very small and can only fit one family gathering.
A quiet out of the way little place where kids can swim n play in the water. Lots of parking and some shade areas.
A unique spot in the world, where you can have a picnic in the park, great for family gatherings. There is no best time to visit ...but my favourite time is when the tide is out as you can have a swim in the pool and walk on the beach, great photo opportunities in the evening and of course a great vantage point when seeing the stairways to the moon.
My wife and I stopped for lunch there the other day. Great BBQ's, nice covered seating, shaded lawns and rubbish bins. Toilets and showers are located at the back of the car park.Had a very pleasant hour or so watching the birds and the tidal movement. This is the only safe ocean swimming in Hedland although both Port and South have really great public pools. At he right tidal time 4WD's can go right down onto the beach - but don't get caught by the rising tide!
I lived in Port Hedland for 10 years in the 70's and 80's and even then Pretty Pool was a misnomer. Pretty compared to a pierced boil maybe !The only improvement I found this trip was the 'Clothing Optional' beach, unfortunately on the occasion of my visit, empty.
Pretty Pool is at the eastern end of Port Hedland, just past Cook Point.Look for the turn-off sign on the right hand side while heading towards Port Hedland.A nice little grassed area to relax and have a picnic. There are rubbish bins, toilets and showers provided also.A short walk will take you to the beautiful ocean beach.
An interesting body of water that is tidal dependant....great place to cool off even in winter. Great to see all walks of life using the pools as the sea doesn't offer complete safety for swimming
Pretty to look at nice grassed area and shade, Janet and Peter went for a swim. Camper vans on the car park though backpackers by the looks staying overnight a bit messy
We head down the estury on our paddle boards at least once a week. Guaranteed water and flat just need to watch out for the wind, less than 10 knots is perfect. Also good for training sessions on dunes, walking the dog and hanging out in the pools.
I think the name sets you up for a let down! It is a good place to go for a swim, the beach is great for the kids and taking the dogs for a walk. It can be pretty there when the weather is nice. The park/bbq area as mentioned in another review, has been taken over by backpackers using everything for free and leaving the toilets and showers a mess. I have no problem with back packers, but it's supposed to be for everyone to enjoy and share. Its a shame nothing is being done about that as it spoils the few places that Port Hedland has to offer.
Pretty pool like its name is a pretty little inlet. The water is fairly warm but it is a great place to escape the industrial town and swim in the beach. There is picnic areas and the sand is nice to sit on. We love to go down for a swim after work.
This is a good place for a family picnic and a swim. But the back packers have taken over this place. you cant get in to have a BBQ as they take the place up. They camp their at night and use the free shower and toliet. They have signs up but nothing is do about it. If you want to BBQ their recommend you get their early and steak your claim.
Went at about 6:15pm, its warm waters, ok view. very shell full beach, light brown sand, low tide is ugly but high tide ok. Worse than Perth Beaches.
This is a good place to go and relax or try to catch a fish. The walking around the area is good and ther is ample parking for those requiring it, there are also places for the kids to play. We enjoyed relaxing and enjoying the scenery.
