We almost walked by here, but we are so glad we didn't. The tasting is amazing and the service is about as personable as you can get. The wines provided were spot on and the homemade lamb empanadas were AMAZING.
We found this amazing place at the end of our day trip to Colonia del Sacramento and we are so glad we did!The tasting is amazing! The wines were great and the food was awsome... I'll never forget the handmade lamb empanadas! If you can get teh table in the cute backyard, go for it, it's so tranquile and beautiful. We then bought some of the wine we tasted and I regret not byuing more! And despite what she thinks, Carolina, the owner speaks English very well! Not to miss when visiting Colonia del Sacramento !!!
We did the full tasting with accompanying food as well as the dessert wine option, the wines were excellent, food was plentiful and the staff were great providing tasting notes and pairing suggestions in English and Spanish. In total the tasting took about an hour and it was the best hour of our day in Colonia, I highly recommend!
I'll echo the praise here. We came over to Colonia for a day trip and stopped in around lunchtime so scope La Vineria de Colonia. We weren't up for a wine tasting just yet but the staff were super helpful in recommending restaurants, sights and beaches nearby to get the most out of our day. We returned in the evening a few hours before our ferry was due to depart and enjoyed a wine tasting paired with delicious local cheeses, meats and fruits and yes, the amazing lamb empanadas, in their lovely garden out back. The staff were again so lovely and knowledgable, talking us through the different wines and characteristics of Uruguayan wine. A great, relaxing way to round of a beautiful day in Colonia!
It has been a couple of months since our visit to Colonia, Uruguay and I can not get it out of my mind! The town, both the newer part and the UNESCO historico barrio both have a certain type of authentic charm that has made such an impression on me. We stumbled upon this very charming wine shop while wondering through the streets on our golf cart. Luckily we set up an informal winetasting for later that afternoon and we happily returned to what turned out to be our favorite place, evening and wine on our entire trip to Buenos Aires and Colonia combined! Both the hosts and the shop are lovely and yes charming. We tried 3 wines along with a fruit/cheese plate and then followed up with lamb empanadas. While we went to B.A. with the idea of finding our favorite Malbec, we came home to Chicago having doscovered our favorite wines were a Tannat Reserva 2011 from Bodega boutique ElLegado and Pinot Noir blanc de noir Chardonnay 2011! When opening one of our Tannat Reserva 2011 at one of our dinners at home, my husband remarked "I wonder if the wine will really taste as good as we thought it was in uruguay OR was it the ambiance at La Vineria that convinced us that it was so good?" Well what a gift we had brought home for ourselves- it tasted even better than we had remembered. Wonderful wine choices by the host who really knows his stuff and the best empanadas we have ever had thanks to the hostess! Since we were returning to Buenos Aires, the host even went over some Argentinian wines for us to give a try. We will keep you in our dreams for a possible return back while we wish you continued success in your business!
An amazing place with wonderful people and even better wines!!! I was walking around Colonia when I first saw this lovely door and, looking through it, I saw the most beautiful garden ever! As I couldn't avoid getting in, suddenly this passionate woman, Carolina, asked me if I wanted to take a cata with three uruguayan premium wines, a cheese board and (surprise!) lamb's empanadas!!! Basically, I said yes because it was almost 8 pm and I really loved the courtyard where the tables where. I never expected the amazing experience I was going to have!!! Carolina and her passion, those incredibles wines accompanied by the delicious uruguayan cheese and empanadas where the cause of one of the best experience ever!!!And it was a wonderful surprise to see how great they are ranking here!!!!Definitely, you must do it if you are in colonia!!!
Thank you very much for your review! We are really happy to hear you enjoyed the experience.I wanted to correct the price for the tasting is 500 Uruguayan Pesos. And thank you for the tip for the vegetarians, for sure we will have something special for them if they let us know in advance.Looking forward to welcoming you soon at La Vinería!Carolina y Martín
We had such an amazing time at their Sat night wine tasting! The table hosts 8 guests plus our wonderful & friendly hosts, Martin & Carolina. We tried 5 wines, 4 Uruguayan and 1 Argentine served along with meat & cheese platters and lamb empanadas. It was a perfect evening! The four of us left with new favorite wines to try and felt like we had made new friends. Martin is very knowledgeable and gives you a background on each wine/bodega along with tasting notes. His wife, Carolina, is just lovely & the most gracious of hosts! Their wine shop has a wonderful selection of wine and great atmosphere. Exactly what you'd hope for... I cannot recommend attending one of their "tastings" highly enough. At only $500 pesos per person, its a steal! Even if you are not in Colonia on a Sat, stop by to have a chat and pick up a bottle or two from their excellent selection of wines. Thanks again for such a pleasant experience!!
My partner Corey and I stumbled upon this amazing winery in Colonia de Sacramento. We were so enchanted by the the shop and the owners we extended our stay another day so we could attend the wine tasting. We learned a great deal from our knowledgeable host Martin and went away with a heightened appreciation of wines. We now have a small obsession experimenting with pairing wines and food. We look forward to returning to this amazing city and can hardly wait to visit La Vineria de Colonia again. Thank you from Corey and Michelle
My wife and I visited after reading several of the reviews on this site. We were thoroughly impressed with the level of intimacy, education, and wonderful tastings. Martin and Carolina were excellent hosts and very helpful in answering our questions and guiding us through the wine selection process. Thanks again
I participated in a wine tasting evening and it was fantastic. The sommelier was knowledgeable and interesting and the selection if wine is suprising in the best way possible.Lots of hidden gems here.
I've been to visit Colonia, Uruguay at least a dozen times without really being lured in enough by one boutique or restaurant to call it a favorite and return everytime. That changed last weekend when I attended a wine tasting at the recently opened Vineria - a place I'll definately return everytime I go back. More than just a wine shop, La Vineria has an authentic bodega feel mixed with big city sophistication in its selection of wines and decor. The tasting itself was a great opportunity to learn and visit amongst other visitors to Colonia and taste some amazing wines that I wouldn't have known about on my own. A definite "to-do" when in Colonia and very welcoming owners to make the experience even better.
The recently opened wine shop and tasting room in Colonia provides some hidden gems. When you think of Uruguay you think of Tannat, and to be honest the first time I had it 2 years ago I wasn't impressed by this rustic wine (might have been the cheap stuff you get a tourist traps), but what Martin had us tasting changed my mind. He not only has a good selection of well-done Tannat, we also tried some other delicious wines from the finest wineries in Uruguay - and there are more than you might think. We started with a fresh and crisp Sauvignon Blanc from Juan Carrau, perfect for a summer dinner. Pity we are going into winter now in the southern hemisphere. Followed by something new to me: Pinor Noir (blanc de noir) Chardonnay from Marichal Reserve Collection. I like Pinot Noir, but never had a white one before, this one has a golden-rosé tone and a very distinct flavor, a delicious mix of freshness and fruitiness with an almost woody hint - really loved that one. The first red again was something new and shows that there is more than Tannat in Uruguay, a Petit Verdot from Pisano RPF, a fresh red wine, that I can imagine for a great asado. The two Tannat we tried made up for the ones I tried two years ago. What a delightful taste and I can’t wait to serve them with a nice dinner at home, the first from Arunguá and the second a Grand Reserve from MarichalApart from tasting great wines, Martin made the evening an experience as his passion and knowledge of fine wine and good food really shows. And even after attending a few wine tastings in the past I still learned something new about wine and winemaking. I am already planning the next trip, luckily it is just 1-hour boat ride away from BA.
Da non perdere, è un posto molto gradevole e in linea con la cittadina che è molto particolare.Buon cibo e abbastanza vario. Vale per la location
