This river is a slow flowing river, very wide in Colonia de Sacramento, about 24 miles wide to Buenos Aires. There are many parks along the river with table, chairs and grills and a nice sandy beach to spend the day. A few good photos opportunities here.

I simply loved it, from the pier to the river. I went there with some Canadian friends and they had s great time. We spent a truly relaxing afternoon. Depending where you come from it might be cheap or expensive.

Picture like surroundings that remind us of colonial times. The water does not look clean. Nice for photo hunting.

the piers and the grassy hills around this little park of Colonia make an awsome picnic spot. chilling out in the sun on the grass of the jetty watching all the Argentina boaties mooring up.there are good supermarkets ner by so you can grab some cold beers, and salami, cheese etc and just it back. no need to go to a bar, theres more going on in the water.there are shops and cafes and restaurants right near by too so if you do fancy a meal its really easy.the town and particularly here is in my opinion the best place in Uruguay

If you want to relax, get a incredible view of Buenos Aires from afar, sunbask or watch the most amazing sunsets, this it the place to go. Treat yourself to a walk along the river!

It worths the visit. Take a picture at Colonia with de la Plata it´s obligatory and charming. Chose some restaurant at the edge of the river and take some tannat wine. It´s a wonderful experience!

Colonia has the typical Rambla of cities in UY that are on the waterfront and waling along it is terrific. This one has old decorative marble looking railing so it's charm fits right in the rest of the Historic Barricio restoration. Great sunsets and sometimes a few Argetina buildings are faintly visible on the horizon.

It is an incredibly wide river! Looks a little dirty for swimming. Wonderful sunsets!!! Very pleasant walks beside the river on the ramble.

I've been a few times and once the water was so violent that I was amazed the boats were staying right side up. Other times its been calm and relazing. The dock is very long and picturesque with seating and nice views. You most definitely won't confuse the water with the Carribean, though. (It's pretty brown and murky.)

Beautiful views over the river from the old town. Even in July we had blue skies and pleasant temperatures. It's worth taking the 5km walk round the bay enjoying the views.

It's a lovely sight from Colonia, not so lovely from Buenos Aires. The beaches in Uruguay are worth a visit, you can swim there since it's not polluted at all.

Colonia del Sacramento makes an excellent day trip from Buenos Aires. I travelled on the Buquebus fast ferry taking just one hour to cross the Rio de la Plata. A very smooth crossing even during a storm on the way back. Colonia del Sacramento is such a contrast to Buenos Aires. Allow for the one hour time difference when choosing a return ferry trip or you may end up rushing around.

Take a boat ride over from Buenos Aires, to chalk up a visit to the country of Uruguay. This little town is so neat with cool views of the ocean. Rent a "souped up" golf cart to cruise the city right at the port of arrival. At times you will be on stone side streets that give you the feel of being back in time. Don't forget to stop at a little burger stand "Los Farilitos", on the main tourist drag. it is open if the owner/operator cook is there, so try a couple times. His burgers have some crzy cool toppings so get it with everything.

Taking a very fast and good boat from Buenos Aires, you can go to Colonia Sacramento, in Uruguay. The Rio de la Plata looks like the ocean. The litle city is so cute, with houses from the last century, nice restaurants and shops. You can stay the day or more, both are worthed!

Loved the sunsets, they are simply unique. They make your heart ache! The colours of the river change with the weather, the skies, sheer clever nature.
