The Malecon was a nice place to walk, people watch and enjoy the river view. There were places to eat, sculptures, monuments and a nice area with wildlife and shade. It was very quiet on a Friday and Monday, but on a Sturday, it was very busy. All entrances were posted with security, so it seemed very safe.

Visited on two separate days a week apart - a Saturday and a Sunday. On both occasions there were an enormous number of people around enjoying the walkway, the gardens and the numerous children's play areas. There were also a number of very visible police and security officials. We felt fairly safe. They have made the boardwalk very interesting by putting in some bridges and curves in the walkway, with gardens underneath. There are also some shopping complexes and movie theatres as well as restaurants and cafes. You can also book a river cruise from here.

This is our second trip to Guayaquil. The first place we head is the Malecon 2000. There is a second Malecon on a different river, but we have never been to it.Our last time here was during the Christmas season, so the entire Malecon was decorated for the festive times. I had concerns that this time, not being a holiday time, the Malecon would lose some of its appeal. On the contrary, it had increased. We did not remember the recycling education center from our last visit. It is colorful, attractive and they did a fun job of decorating the exterior with recycled products. There seem to be new garden areas, divided into groups. We found more paths to explore than the last time, but it could be perhaps we overlooked them the last time. Everything is well maintained. The areas for children are delightful with a variety of rides for little children and a free playground area. Watching the families share is fantastic.Thank you Guayaquil for keeping this area a wonderful place to spend time.

Stopped for 1 day in Guayaquil on my way to Quito with my friends and we enjoyed a nice walk with the water view and a nice sunset. Great place to walk and relax yourself.

It's a great place to walk and it is secure but it is smelly sometimes. You don't get push to buy anything because street sellers are not pemited.

A nice way to start your day or finish the day. Lots of cops so safe for you to enjoy and take photos just don't be complacent with you personal security, I had noticed lots of eyes on me and my camera, nothing happened so all is good walk and enjoy

If you want to see the residents of Guayaquil at leisure and get a sense of the geography of this city then head straight for the Malecon. The "local" eateries on it are excellent value - it's "sit down" street food. The coloured photos showing the dishes make ordering easy. We ate seafood freshly prepared and beautifully cooked for only a five dollars each including sides and drinks. The direction toward Santa Anna end is most interesting and the Museum of Anthropology and Modern Art is well worth a visit as are the lovely botanical gardens. There is plenty of seating and shade all along the Malecon and a lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

A view of the river, pedestrian and tourist friendly with shops, restaurants, food spots, benches and rest areas and an IMAX Theater. The river walk is about two miles long and most enjoyable on a clear day. It is free.

It is lovely! You have to hand it to Guayaquil city fathers who have invested heavily in planning lovely green space and park land, and this boardwalk is no exception. There are benches, flowers, paths, sculptures, historical spots to stop (Moorish clock tower, Heroes monument in the Rotunda), bridges, and interesting views of the river bringing down water from the Andes. There are four huge structures representing wind, earth, fire and water - so interesting! In one area as you get to the end of the malecon, there is a huge entry into the water shaped like the bow of a ship. Museums and shops await beyond, so there is lots to do at the end of your stroll.

The government is spending their oil money wisely, investing in new facilities in major towns Guayaquil has a beautiful, long malecon that is surrounded by botanical gardens, restaurants, parking on site, and families enjoying the day with their children. No solicitors, but there is a major shopping mall targeting local folks other than tourists.

It is very clean and nice but hardly a cultural experience. I assume most travelers come to Ecuador to see culture. The Malecon is beautifully done but looks like a river walk in any American city. I recommend skipping this and going to the Mangroves or a nearby beach city like Salinas or Montanita.

The waterfront seems to go forever with so much to see and do. It was especially filled with families and lots of children on this particular Sunday. The pirate ship tour was sailing down the Guayas River. I didn't have time for the Botanical Garden - maybe next time - it looked really wonderful.

Great area downtown on the water. Sculpture, art and well tended gardens, about 2miles of Boardwalk. At the current end, one can walk up 444 numbered steps to the light house and up again. Very pretty area and clean. A couple of good restaurants for a cold beer in the heat. Nearby there is iguana park, a well kept garden that has scads of iguanas roaming around who are friendly and fun to watch. A great way to spen an afternoon
