Worth a visit for the view and architecture and to see what was once a fairly dangerous barrio transformed into a safe space for all...even tourists!

As I am an architect, I was disappointed that one of the main building attractions in the city was totally covered with fabric and all the outdoor spaces were closed off. This inside is open, but there not much to look at. Still the ride up the metrocable was enjoyable. If your planning a visit check to see if it is still under repair.

How brilliant to travel to this destination , it is a case of the journey being greater ! Watch out Spain Medellin has taken you gift and reset it to a greater splendor .

I found this a waste of time, in spite of it being so highly advertised by certain travel channels. There is nothing much to do. Watch out for small boys offering themselves as "guide" for your visit. They will then ask you for a fee which is really over the top for the little story they rattle off. There is nothing to do or to see in the building for the occasional visitor. They seem not equipped for visitors. The streets around the Biblioteca are ok-ish, if you want to get a good local feel. There is plenty of stuff to buy (fruits, ice cream, lunch etc). But i personally found it a waste of time.

What used to be a very violent barrio on the hills of Medellin now has a large library that was built to bring education and culture to the poorest areas of the city. Access is quick and wonderful via the metro cable. This is a must-visit area of Medellin: Santo Domingo Savio.

The Biblioteca Espana (Spanish Library) is an example of Medellin's forward-thinking public works. When it was built 7 years ago, the neighborhood in which it is situated was plagued with violence. With the creation of this architecturally significant community center, residents were given access to education and other opportunities to create a new future. The cable car opened around the same time, and the combination of the two has resulted in a complete transformation of this formerly violent area in just a matter of years. Sadly, the library was built on the side of a cliff, and is in danger of sliding downhill into the neighborhood below. Attempts to stabilize the base are underway, but at present, it looks like it may need to be demolished. It is presently draped in black construction netting. Enjoy it while you can!

Just the ride all the way up there is very interesting. Plus the fact that you are walking in a Favela with no worries, ever since the security is very good. The building itself is beautiful, and it shows a little of the amazing social work is being done in that area.

Shouldnt be missed, of course. But one should check out the entire neighborhood as well. Its good to get a sense of what these libraries are really like and it provides a nice view of the city and a more intimate picture of the people who live here and use this amenity.

The title pretty much says it all. The park itself does not really have anything to offer, but you should certainly do both Metrocables! You get a safe view of the other side of Medellin!

I think it is a very special building but since there are under maintenance and don't know 'till when. I don't recommend you going there right now.un abrazo gregor

This is an architectural icon for the city but currently is shrouded in canvas due to poor construction that has led to serious water leaking problems which can be noted throughout the interior. It's an unintentional symbol for the shoddy construction that exist in the country (e.g., a highrise condominium under construction in the city recently collapsed due to poor construction). The building is still open to the public so you're able to see the interior and learn about the history of the building and the transformation of the neighborhood. When will Colombians learn that cutting corners in construction will create far greater and costlier problems in the future???

A brilliant litle side trip and a view to be amazed by, built for some of the poorest people in the world a truely wondeful example of how a goverment should spend it money.cable car ride up is a wonder in itslef!!

The architecture and perch on the hill is certainly eye catching, the views are expansive, but the inside is like any other library. I found the stroll through the surrounding low income comuna of Santo Domingo to be the most rewarding. Once a dangerous part of a dangerous city, it is great way to experience the local culture and just see how people live life here. It felt very safe, and the people very friendly.

It was design to be seen from outside. Inside is a normal building and the part of the paintings are not well designed since all the sun reflects, damaging them. The building inside also needs more maintenance since there were places with mold. Good library for kids with very good books. It is interesting to go in the metro cable and learn how the library has change the neighborhood.

The concept of this library in such a poor and previously very dangerous area is wonderful. The views over the city are great. The architecture is no doubt amazing if you like that sort of thing. But actually visiting it is missable I think. Not much to look at inside unless you're there to use the facilities, stare at locals, or are a library nerd. Interesting to walk through the streets to get there. It may not be the proper opinion - and I actually am a bit of a library nerd. But I could probably have equally enjoyed it from the cable car.
