After being very disappointed with beaches in cartagena, this was a very nice surprise. It is a rough, dirty road to get to the beach area, but once you arrived you will find a stunning beach area. The hawkers can be a little annoying, and the beach facilites are little, but the beach is stunning and well worth a viist.
The water is so clear and blue. It was slightly cold, but we were still able to jump right in in February. Beware of the sand-it is probably the hottest sand I ever experienced. You will need sunscreen here! There are lots of people trying to sell stuff, but it makes it fun. We got the massage girls to give us massages (highly recommended) and it was so relaxing. WE had a band sing to us and also bought an armadillo flute. You have to barter, so you need to know Spanish or be with a native who can do this for you. We were served lunch on the beach from the restaurant across the street and they let us use their bathrooms to change.
The beach is great. It is busy in parts but you can walk up to quieter spots. Do not expect luxury beachside restaurants and top notch facilities. There are hostals with simple facilities but that is all part of the fun. Just enjoy the beach and the water. There are hawkers but a simple no makes them leave, or try a large plate of the fruit for 5000 pesos!
I would recommend not to go there on weekends, it is really packed. Its a very touristy place with people being next to each other very close. However they have some great food there and lots of locals to meet. When you take a boat, make sure they give you a ticket for getting there and the return.
Liked the boat ride to the beach as you get to see a few good sights. The beach is great but a bit crowded and lots of people hustling for cash but they move on quickly if you show no interest in whatever they are selling.
it really is a very pretty beach...and you can find some great seafood...with feet in sand and a beer in hand...it's hard to beat. Cracks me up that some of the local old guys will damn near force you to eat an oyster when you get off the boat...and then try and make you pay 50 mill for it. Try not to be a sucker.
i loved all the other beaches, is just that the ocean on this one is a lot more calm that any other beach we were. That gives you the option to practice snorkley.Lots of people but by the time i was there i was just expecting to see lots. The boat to get to Playa Blanca are regularly going there. the one i took just had 2 boats running all the time, but some other companies have more than 10. probably this one may be a better option as services are more often.Once at the beach is mandatory to walk to the upper part of the hill to get a better photo of the beach.
lovely water, tons of people/ you have to buy a chair/ umbrella and will still get taken for drinks etc.
It is a beautiful beach that gives you the sensation of as if you are in an island. The water is crystal clear and you can see fish in the shore. The kids had a blast with these fish trying to catch them. Nevertheless, the beach has had some deterioration given by irresponsible tourists that through away their garbage every where. I
This beach really isn't very white, just a lighter shade of brown. Also, if you're thinking the 10 minute boat ride away from Rodadero will spare you the beach hawkers selling stuffed lizards, shaved ice and kachina dolls, think again. They're here too...Not sure how they get there, but there's no escape from it. Plan on having someone say 'mister mister massaje massaje' every 10 minutes. And on Rodadero Beach, you can at least retreat to your hotel when you've had enough. At Playa Blanca, you're stuck and need to wait for the next boat to escape.
The trip from Rodadero is supposedly by a cooperative of boat owners, but passengers are still assigned to specific boats and it's very difficult to identify which is which. It seems that arguments between boat operators and confused passengers are not uncommon, and that's not the way to organize a trip like this. It's expensive, a return trip costs COP 50k for 2 people, and food at the beach is also expensive, a moderately sized grilled fish for 2 costs COP 70k. No reason to go back really.
I was very much looking forward to visiting this beach as many people recommended it as the best, closest beach. We arrived early, and a hoard of people soon came after. The sellers were very aggressive and somewhat nasty. The music was invasive and throbbing. The smell of fried fish was everywhere. The beach and water was full if trash. I would say that people have destroyed this place. Sad.
Great food, great sea, great time. Totally recommended. Just be carefull with the massage ladies. They'll try to make you pay more and more for a simple massage.
THis is a beautiful beach to spend the entire day.... Good food too many vendors selling stuff. Beautiful clear water and white sand.
