Located in one of the best areas of the city, Plaza Altamira has been in the last years used by students to their encounters, eventually became an icon of the students political manifestations.A beautiful square, full of history, really demands a visit!
Plaza Altamira has always been an icon in the city. With its the ironing oblique and great views of the Avila mountain is surrounded by couple of buildings that have architectural prices in past decades.
This Plaza has been coverted into a political strong hold of opposition students but due to local government authority it is well maintained, clean and is a quite safe area. Close by services available is the subway which permits to and from access. No food or drink available except for street sales
This is a nice Plaza that has lot's to talk about in the last 15 years of the political arena of Venezuela. Very well located.
Well maintained, colorfull, noisy, crowded at some hours, there is a Metrro station in its underground. Surrounded for most beautifull and some historic buildings of the city. Plaza Altamira is an Icon for Democracy and Freedom of Speech.
Caracas is not a great turistic city, but it have its moments and little corners. This place, well known by locals because its political charge of anti-goverment movements, is a good starting point for walking the neigborhood of "Chacao". It have a nice french style and good restaurants and coffee shops to spend a calm afternoon.
Lovely place to walk and share an ice cream, you can see the people spendind a nice afternoon, it was all decorated with christmas lights.
The plaza is located in Altamira, a middle class neighborhood in the east part of the city. The plaza has a subway entrance and it's surrounded by hotels, restaurants, bakeries and cultural spaces such as Centro cultural la estancia, the CELARG and Centro cultural corp banca (which offers from live concerts to flower shows). Due to the heavy traffic around it, it's better to visit during weekends, when it is frequently used for book shows and live concerts, specially during holidays such as carnival, semana Santa and Christmas. Conveniently located above a subway station, it is easily accessible using line 1. Recommend to visit during the day or late afternoon, when the tropical weather of the city and the view of the avila mountain can be enjoyed, trying to blend in using common sense, although it is considered a safe place due to the high volume of people that go there.
The plaza itself is nice, it has trees and benches, a fountain and an obelisk. It also has an entrance to a subway station. During the day, there's always people selling ice cream. The problem is it's right next to a very concurred avenue and so, during the morning and early afternoon it's surrounded by traffic and and noise. I'd say it's nice to visit after 5 pm, but of course, like everywhere else in Caracas, you have to be careful 'cause the later it is, the more insecure it gets, even though Altamira is one of the less insecure zones in the city.
Nice view of Avila mountain very close to PDVSA art museum and Casa Romulo Gallegos 6 block from excellent restaurant and 9 block from Centro San Ignacio
Plaza de Altamira is a beautiful square located in the Municipality of Chacao. The beautiful Cerro Avila decorates the background. There are many good hotels and restaurants in this area. There are stairs in the square that lead right to the subway station.Unfortunately, Caracas has become quite a dangerous city, but in this specific place many people feel relatively safe and comfortable, so there's always people walking and enjoying Caracas' nice weather. Anyhow, like in every large city, always be careful and vigilant when walking on the street. There are frequent cultural events in Plaza Altamira. However, in the current political situation, Plaza Altamira is frequently a site for demonstrations and huge gatherings of opponents to the government.
Altamira square is located in one of the safest areas in Caracas, it's municipal police is among the least corrupted in the city, and people are proud of their district, which is the richest in the coutry. There is a subway station on the corner, and many wonderful restaurants a few blocks away and 2 hotels.
A nice square, clean and green with many plants. Additions to the Metro station of the same name. There being done much to the square have this high standard
This place is located in the Altamira neighborhood, where you can take the subway! You can walk there and see the Obelisko which is small compared with the one in Buenos Aires but is in pretty good shape! You can have an ice cream while you watch the Avila Mountain behind!
Nothing to see here, keep walking up the Ave. to Migal for a walk around the shops there.Place is filled with annoying drivers and bikers during the day, it is also filled with some shady characteres and then you see an obelisc. Dont think more of it.
