Due to a recent earth-quake the church was on works during my visit. I'm sure I would have appreciated it even more in case this was fully finished.
Not much really, a typical small town church without a special sight to be mentioned. Take a look if you are in town since it sits conveniently in central san pedro.
Sadly at the time of our trip in February 2015 the church was covered in scaffolding. The church was brown with new exterior plaster. It was shut to visitors. I don't know when it will reopen. I would suspect end of March.
When I visited local craftsmen were working very carefully to restore and maintain this lovely old church. I felt very welcome there.
Only saw the church from the outside because it is currently being restored. It looks lovely and the walls match the mud brick decor of the rest of the town.
This main monument of San Pedro was seriously damaged in 2012 because of the strong rains. They are restauring it right now so you cannot enter it or take nice pictures. It should be finished in one year.
San Pedro de Atacama is a quiet village really full of backpackers...it's amazing, an oasis of sunbaked adobe houses and red dirt streets set between the desert and the altiplano. The people are very kind and friendly. I fascinated by this village, I think I could live there...a simple life surrounded by nature
e.g. 8th December. Fantastic parade in the afternoon. It seemed the music and dancing was competitive between the different groups.
In the middle of the desert and close to the Andes mountains, at 3000 meters high is this charming village where we can find plenty of natural beauty
This beautiful landmark of san pedro is being restored by a wonderful philantropist, can't wait to see it finished.
It was a shame it was under renovation, but we can see the old adobe walls. Hope it will be over soon
Beatifull smal church in the centre of San Pedro . If you are near by you should visit it. And don.t forget to light a candle!
Beautiful little church, not to be missed if you are interested in culture and history. A real gem, very well kept with a true representation of the local culture.
Must go! Must visit from inside out! This church was constructed about 1640, and when is reformed properly, is a good place to took nice photos and take a walk around!
The church is on the main square and is worth a visit. It is a lovely little church with some interesting archectural details. Be sure to notice the ceiling which is made with cactus-wood.
