I have the great opportunity to have the Villarrica lake as the view from my office, could I say more?Villarrica lake has two souls: Villarrica, a more quiet city, with almost double the habitants that Pucon has, and Pucon, itself the center of nightlife, eco-tourism, skiing and mountain climbing
We visted off season and were prepared to take a risk with the weather, but had three glorious days. Villarrica is finishing of a new promenade which will give access to a beach, whilst Pucon offers boat trips. Wonderful views across teh kae and to the volcano.
The lake is varying in its colour and it is beautiful in all its moods. The area near to the town is being developed and it should be beautiful and good for families when it is complete. There is an attractive boardwalk which took us close to the water.
It was a good time to visit Pucon and surroundings. No crowds because was right before New Year's Eve. Lots of outdoor activities.
We visited two towns on this lake, Villarrica and Pucon. Villarrica was more family oriented with water park areas in the middle of downtown and parking seemed to be free everywhere. Ice cream stands and eateries were plentiful. Access to the beach was wide open and the streets along the lake had separate cement strips for the kids pedal wagons. We spent the day in Pucon and started out on the Lake. Same black gravel but tough to access the beach. All parking close to the beach and even the streets around the park were all "pay".High adrenaline sports - more for young adults & yuppies. Eateries were upscale and busy.We found a wonderful Artesan Craft Fair halfway up the road to the ski runs. Wonderful crafts, great food and we were able to mix with the locals.
It is the heart of this Patagonian area. Really nice, lots of things to do. The views of the volcanos reflected in the calm water its just perfect.
Set high in the mountains the Lake provides the playground for the young and famous. If you can look thru the deck chairs and people seeking fame at Pucon it is very pretty, but Likon Ray to the south of Villaricca is far more impressive and less tourist orientated. Well worth the local bus trip of about 25 Kliometres through picturesque country and little villages stopping to let the locals on and off with their produce.A great experience worth doing.
Peaceful place to sit and bring your own eat lunch.
My Chilean wife and I love Lago Villarrica for it's pure clean waters and awesome black beach located in the town of Pucon.
crowded beach now in january - catch a bus and go to Lake Caburga (30 min drive, 800 pesos) and walk to the Playa Blanca
Lake Villarrica is great to enjoy a stroll, whether it is at sunrise, during the day or at sunset - you always have the volcano in the background with different colors depending on the time of day. There are numerous black-sand beaches along the road to Pucón, too.
