A worthwhile visit for 2 or 3 h. The park has many old trees which are worth to see. Alltogether a good Thing for a sunny morning
Very beautiful, good for a walk or run. Nice view of the river. Good for children. Not far from downtown.
Huge garden and right next to the river, it's a sight to be seen, definately an experience worth repeating.
Over the bridge from he city, walk down the street and take the tree lined promenade to Austral. The garden will be on the right. It is not amazing but worth a visit to get away from the commotion of the city and into quiet nature.
Go prepared, it will probably rain. Check what cultural activity is going on in the University. Cross the river in a boat, then It will be one hour walk, but you will see more river, nice houses and gardens. Also some restaurants that you might like to check for and early dinner before going back to the hotel. All this has to be during day light. At night Valdivia is not that interesting. Then it is time to rest, eat and drink good Chilean red wine. Also to study where you are going the next day. Drink all the wine and have a good night sleep!!!
Lovely and well kept, the University's botanical gardens are in a secluded spot of Isla Teja - away from the hustle and bustle of the main city. There are many ancient large tree specimens from around the world sorted by geographical groupings with paths meandering between them. Between the stands of trees are large well kept lawns that are nice to lie out or play on with kids or dogs. Put quite simply, this place is a spot of beauty and tranquillity, a true hidden gem that even the well travelled should visit. Although my boyfriend and I were in the city, we felt totally connected to nature and quite contemplative while here.
Had a pleasant stroll through this arboretum, which was practically empty on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.
The paths circle through well kept lawns, below trees of many heights and ages and types, and far out into the garden of trees and bushes. This is a place to slow down, to simply wander and sit on a bench, to dream or be with a lover, to smile and look upwards.
Lovely setting by river. Gardens are very 'natural' and paths meander everywhere. Lovely collection of plants and a very peaceful location to go for a relaxing walk
Undoubtedly, one of the beautiful places in Valdivia. Just stroll around enjoying this extraordinary botanical garden. Together with a trip on boat to the rivers and the Food Fair in Niebla, I would say one can live happily ever after!
We arrived with three bus loads of a tour group and enjoyed our stroll through this well maintained arboretum. A large section of native regional trees was impressive. There were no signs in English but we had good local tour guides.
I spent an hour or more walking around the Botanical Garden on the University of Austral De Chile. I visited the garden on a Saturday afternoon, just walking over the river bridge from Valdivia to the university campus, about a 15 minute walk. There were few people around, but the one person I asked directions from pointed me in the right direction (near the medical school and right off the river). Much of the garden is given over to pastoral expanses. It was a good place for a picnic. I visited in early spring and many flowering plants were bursting forth with their blooms. There was no admission fee. The one disappointment was how few identifying signs there were for the many plants found in the garden. It was not clear to me that any docent led tours were available so I left knowing not much more about the plants I saw than when I arrived but I still enjoyed the visit.
I didn't expect to find such a big, quiet park in the middel of a university. Would love to go back on a warm, sunny day, but even in the rain it was worth the trip.A taxi from downtown only cost $1,000 pesos and there are lots of buses to take you back and forth.
Beautiful park with lots of trees from many kinds.Went in the afternoon with a friend. Great for a couple hours walk or just to sit and relax. The park is closed at night.
Hermosas especies vegetales, aún cuando no estaban en floración. La mejor fecha es la primavera en donde están en su esplendor los rododendros arbóreos, camelias y azaleas
