Iteresting to hear the music and the songs, and the costumes with the feather headdresses are wonderful. This is a very sincere show--a bit too much audience participation, and some explanation of the songs and dances that were performed would have been interesting.
No ifs or buts - an absolute must when visiting Easter Island is a trip to the Ballet Kari Kari. A fabulous performance of typically local music and dance put across with such enthusiasm and professionalism. An hour watching the show and the audience are worn out just watching. What a night out - our thanks.
Several people in Hanga Roa suggested that experiencing Kari Kari is a must - and they are right! Originally, we were a bit sceptical, thinking that it might be just very touristy. However, those who recommended it had no interest in it other than giving us good advice. We arrived just on time (no reservation) and got excellent seats. The show lasts about one hour non-stop and is fantastic. At least twice, people in the audience are picked (no pressure!) to join on stage to dance with their performing partners. Picture and video taking is no problem and I ended up with about 15 short videos! We agree that Kari Kari is a must while in Hanga Roa.
I booked in advance 2 tickets 4 days before. Once we arrived was a nasty old man and his wife, and 11 more in our seats. They refused to move that man, and show no intention to solve the issue. Finally they refund the money after 15 minutes. We couldn't see the show,
This evening show is worth attending to soak up some local culture, it is a quite authentic experience and good fun.
We went to the show on a whim after seeing an advertisement on the street, but ended up really enjoying ourselves! The songs were in Spanish and Rapa Nui, but are beautiful no matter what language you speak. It's an hour long show for about 25 USD.
Pasta was yummy. If I recall, the ceviche was soooo good. I don't need to add more just to fill in the 50 characters.
A little hard to find because there is only a sign on the street and a path back between houses to the small house where the ballet is. You can buy wine really cheap, about $5 a glass but during the show it's impossible for the wait staff to come take more orders so it's almost pointless to try. The show was amazing! It really takes some physical strength to do those dances and after a few dances you can see the dancers are covered with sweat! The outfits are a little provocative and the men still don't hesitate to jump high enough in the air that their skirts go completely up. Some wear little underwear with it but I'm not sure about the others.... so children might not be the best choice for the first few rows! The even pull a few people up on stage! It was an amazing experience!
The show was professional. The songs were sang in Rapanui and in Spanish, so for an English speaking person it was a bit difficult to follow though beautiful. Maybe handouts in English could be prepared to describe the stories and songs. Of course it was fascinating to listen to Rapanui -language as it is nearly distinct.
Did they change the name? If this is the MAORI TUPUNA presented by Vai Te Mihi, then this was for us even more interesting than the Moai Statues! These traditional dances full of passion, amazing costumes and beautiful people! It was our BEST & UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE on Easter Island, we have never seen something like this, totally worth the expensive price for a front seat! The earth-oven dinner they offer is also totally worth the experience! Thank you!
Lovely show, great location - in the main street. We bought the cheapest tickets (stands) and saw the show as well as the people that bought seats (chairs).
Well worth the price. Very entertaining and interactive with the crowd. Excellent dancers adorned with elaborate native attire. A fun night out on Rapa Nui for sure!
The show is nice, with enthousiastic dancers. But no explanation whatsoever is given, so one just has to guess what the dance and music is about. No way to know whether this is traditional, modern interpretation, ... Seating is a bit uncomfortable. If you book in advance, you are seated in the front row.
A great show with lots of flamboyant costumes and music. There are various dance performances and then some audience participation. CDs and DVDS of it are available if you want a souvenir. A really fun way to spend an evening!
Reservations are important on some days, as the place can be booked up early. It is a great 75 minute show, the routines are quick, the music is very good and the atmosphere vibrant. Expect to be called up to join in the dance especially the front rows. great costumes. we had a no dinner show, although shows with dinner are also available. A must on the Island, and probably the most popular show on the Island.
