This site has the largest collection of dinosaur footprints in the world - and they are definitely worth your visit. The guide did a great job of explaining the different types of dinosaurs represented. The museum also has great life-sized replicas of several dinosaurs as you enter - great for kids especially. There is also a nice little cafe for refreshments after the climb back uphill after viewing the footprints.
We loved this little park, the setting in the hills around sucre and the idea that 67 million years ago dinosaurs stood at the same place on the shore of a former lake without the hills that are there now is just amazing. If you take the free tour at 12 or 1 PM ( no other times available) you can get within centimeters of the footprints to take as many fotos as you like.Well worth a visit at a reasonable price (30 bolivians) and close to sucre (+/- 20 min with a taxi).
I agree with others this place is alittle out of town, 30-40min on the local bus and the location which can't be helped is next to a massive concrete factory, but it's not like they can move. It's a cheap day/ half day out. Get there for the walking tour I think there's a few a day. It's worth it as you get down into the old quarry where they discovered the foot prints. You get up close and personal to the thousands of foot prints. Was very impressed with the footprints, more then the rest of the small park. English guid was good.
The wall of dinosaur tracks was very impressive, even if viewed from a distance, and the park itself is colorful and filled with fun dinosaur replicas. Our tour guide was helpful and informative, though he did tend to speak rather quickly. The park is a bit far - and expensive - to get to, however, and once you have seen the tracks, there is not much else to do. I am half Bolivian, so I paid the much cheaper entrance fee for nationals, but I don't think I would have wanted to pay the more expensive tourist price considering what there is to see. Still, Sucre is very proud of these tracks, as they well should be!
Went there by mistake, hopping on a double-decker bus that turned out not to be a tour of the city, but transportation directly to the park. Limestone cliffs showing dinosaur tracks on a walk across what might have been a plain field (now nearly 90-degrees vertical, can transport you immediately to a time some 230 million years ago when what appears to have been a mid-size group of dinosaurs walked across a field that was soon to be visited by a catastrophe that preserved these tracks. The part itself is small but you cannot help feeling yourself in Jurassic Park, the movie, as life-size reproductions of many of the dinosaurs are placed throughout the park. There is a dino-themed playland for the kids and a clean and efficiet restaurant where you can enjoy a Pollosaurus sandwich... Go, it is a bit of a Disney-like attraction where you least expect it.
You are very far away from the tracks and the tickets were 30 bolivianos for foreigners. If you are really into paleontology then you might get something out of it, otherwise skip it.
I read all the reviews before visiting the park and it is all true- but a must do if you travel to Sucre. Its only 6km from the town centre so we walked (a lot of uphills but you get the benefits of exercise and great views). You have to walk past thw Francesa cement plant and walk uphill to the parque. It is probably one of the best presented tourist spots I've seen in Bolivoa so far. We made it just in time for the 12pm tour and put our hard hats on and zig zagged our way down the cliff and 10mins we were at the bottom. You can frt as close as ~1m to the footprints..magic ! This english/spanish tour has only been open for 5months and they've been haggling with the cement company and the Govt for 8years to get it recognised as a world heritage site.In short, the rocks are highly weathered so I'd see the 120m high wall before it erodes away. Despite the repetitive tour guide, see it for the unique historical factor.
One of the highlights of Bolivia! Where else can you get within touching distance if real dinosaur prints!! Only worth it if you get to go on the walking tour at 12 or 1, as it is an hour long and free! The park itself is small but well designed.Remember to take closed toe shoes and absolutely take the local number 4 bus there rather than the tourist bus.
Amazing! The quarry opened up to the public mid 2014. You can get up close & personal to the dino tracks now. The guides are awesome & informative & it's very interesting! But wear covered shoes as they won't let you on the guided tour to get close to the quarry if you have sandals, flip flops or bare feet.
Great fun, even though the entrance fee for foreigners is a bit high. At noon and 1pm they have guided tours which takes you down to see the dinosaur tracks up close, very much worth the trip. Take local bus number 4 for 1.50 bob, ditch the 15 bob tourist bus that also can take you there. Local buses are just fine, and way cheaper.
Why on earth is this not the number one attraction of Sucre?! I didn't see anything whic came close to this in the whole week I was there!! There are 5,500 real dinosaur tracks here - this in itself should be enough to make everybody want to visit. But add to this the walking tour (12 or 1pm - you have to get here for one of these times) into the quarry where the prints were found, to stand a few feet away from them and really appreciate their magnitude and this is an amazing experience! A great couple of hours at a very reasonable price.
I read some of the other reviews and I was shocked. This place is awesome just make sure you make it for the 12 or 1 o'clock tour. Spend an hour in the documentary room so you can get a stronger imagination for what transpired. Maria was an excellent guide but we did meet other tourists who missed the 12 and 1 tour and they didn't have the same experience
The photographs in the publications which show velociraptor tracks are of a section which is no longer there, it collapsed about 2 years ago. The tracks are only accessible on two guided tours at noon and 1 pm. the 1pm one has better lighting
I took the 12:00 tour bus from the city center up to Cal Orck'o, which in itself is an interesting ride through the city and allows for some great views from the top. Once I arrived I noticed something about being able to walk by the wall between 12 - 2 pm but they didnt tell me anything about it. I watched a bit of the movie and then joined the Spanish tour through the park. I quickly left the tour because I did not care much about the dinosaur statues and really just wanted to see the wall. To use the binoculars, you need to give 2 Bs to the lady and she will give you a token - I messed this up at first. After I took a look, I was a little disappointed because you really couldnt see them up close and I thought I would be pretty bored for the next hour. But then, I got pulled into a tour to go down and see the footprints up close. DEFINITELY do this, it was well worth it and they explain more about the footprints and how they got there in English and in Spanish.
We really liked the park itself, the viewpoint and the small museum. It is very well done and puts in good value the big scientific discovery of the wall with more than 5000 footprints of dinosurs. We were surprised to read so many reviews of people who were disappointed by the park... what do they expect to see? Live dinosaurs??? Just one footprint would be a huge discovery, imagine 5000. If you can't appreciate and interprete this simple but enormous scientific archeologic discovery, but expect to see dinosaur automatons, then go to Disneyland instead!
