Located at three thousand meters Cachi is a pretty tough place to get to but well worth the effort. The road to Cachi can be trying since there are many unpaved sections that must be very difficult esp0ecially during a rain. There is virtually nothing nearby and most of the time you are traveling through very desolate country that has its own special attraction. The village of some two to three thousand is immaculate--every house and building seems to have been whitewashed at the same time. There is no garbage and no clutter. The museum is outstanding, there is a good variety of hotels available and the restaurants we frequented were very good. If you like peace and quiet combined with a unique high altitude atmosphere this is the place to visit. And plan to stay for more than one day to get the real feel for the place. We only stayed the one day and regretted having to leave so quickly.

The church with it's cactus wood ceilings is quite impressive. The museum is worth a visit. It is a nice little town to walk around for an hour or so to take a few photographs.

Cachi is a beautiful small town, surrounded by vineyards and farms. The central square is lovely. We visited the Isamendi vineyard for lunch (just outside the square) and toured the winery.

We Loved visiting Cachi. The overall experience was wonderful. It's a small town that you can even miss if you drive by to speedy....You'll be missing out big time if that happens! It's a dreamy little town, you can't miss the Museum, it's got Amazing native pieces! The lovely Church stands tall and proud in the middle of town, if you catch the sunset behind it, you'll be so fortunate to have witnessed it! Oliver Restaurant is a MUST!! THE BEST SALTA EMPANADAS ,the owner is Internationally hired to make them! ENJOY CACHI !!!

To get to Cachi, one takes the route that winds through the Valley Calchaquie and the Los Cardones National Park, an extremely photogenic and spectacular drive. In many ways, I thought the journey there far surpassed Cachi itself.Cachi is a small town with a nice square, a church and a town council. There are a few restaurants and artesenal shops but thats pretty much it. Buildings here are constructed in the typical adobe-style common of North Western Argentina.

This town is good for one night only. It is a lovely colonial town with an interesting church. A few hours would be fine here.

The scenery on the way is amazing, the town cute and well preserved. However there is no much happening here and unless you have a car transport is difficult. Also they town closes down from 1:00 to 6:00 pm so you get stranded with not much to do unless you take a tour.

Cachi is a white jewel on the mountain. The road to go there from Salta is incredibly beautiful, just try to seat on the left side of the bus to enjoy the view and take the one that leaves from Salta at 7 am.I recommend to take the 'nighttime walking tour' with Ilda Corimayo, you can book it at the touristic office ( everyday except sunday). I don't tell u about it... but believe me Ilda is a great woman and you will fall in love with her and this experience.I also loved the ruta40 from Cachi to Cafayate. If you don't have a car, don't miss it anyway, even if it can be tricky... You should take the bus to molinos, than arrange a remis to agastaco (you can share with other travellers) and get another bus to cafayate. The best part is from molinos to angastaco.Viracocha restaurant in cachi is good.Try to talk to people and spend some time with them, they're very nice.I recommend the camping, they also have dormitories and a cheap swimming pool.

Compare to other popular villages in Salta and Jujuy, Cachi is the most calm of all. Nice plaza with nice cafes but it is hard to find a good market. Do not forget to walk through the old colonial street. I loved the corner doors!!

If you like driving dirt roads with little traffic through the mountains, visiting Cachi is worth the trip. Located at about 2100 m above sea level, this small colonial town maintains most of the old look, while providing cafés, restaurants, and boutique hotels that invite the visitor to stay. The Automovil Club Argentino (ACA) Hostería (hotel, actually) has some great views and is walking distance to downtown.

Cachi is a little town isolated in Argentina's Northwest. It is along the famous Ruta 40. Beautiful kept, safe, picturesque, a couple of great places to stay (Villa Cardon) and eat (Ashpamante). We spent 2 nights and a full day just taking it all in.

You can do the trip with a collectivo bus as there are about 2 buses per day. I chose to go with Peregrini adventures. Great driver of the day called Cesar, with running commentary and lots of interesting stops to take in the view. The Cuesta del Obispo, incredible dirt road super well maintained but if you hire a car it may be difficult during the rainy season dec.to feb. even dangerous. On the way the Panque de Los Cardones and to top it all the quiet paved village of Cachi which is on the famous 40 road and precisely 4499 kl to the end in the deep south of Argentina. Cachi with pretty shaded square, with church and few restaurants. The trip to Cachi about 10hr. Including stops and visit of Cachi. Very worth while.

Cachi is a lovely little town. Very quiet but a disproportionate number of restaurants etc. few of which were open on the Saturday we arrived. 5 years ago we loved the place, this time not quite as much. Still one of my all time favourite driving routes though.
