This is a unique place in the world to see the baby pinguins .so special to watch the Magelan Pinguins without any fear at all from us. They look at you and you feel very special to be accepted.Area is well organized and protected. Good service all around.

This should be the first place where to go when the scope is to see Penguins. It's the biggest colony ever and they are everywhere. You can observe them very close and see what's they daily life about. Quite place easy access.

This was a long day of driving but well worth it. The penguins were fascinating. We were surprised at the vast area of this colony. You walk on paths through part of the colony and get relatively close to the penguins, but respectful of their space. It was fun to watch them make their way to the water and back up the hill.

It worth a visit. They cross in front of you many times. We can't touch them but we stayed at 2 feet from penguins. Its amazing visit. Prepare for spend at least 2 hours there.

We were told to expect "a lot" of penguins. What an understatement. We initially saw some penguins along the walkway. We then crested a hill, and oh my gosh, the penguins went on as far as the eye could see. We were told there about 800,000 - 1,000,000 penguins in this area. There were so many cute babies and adults. They were everywhere. As we walked along the walkway, they would walk right in front of us. The walkway eventually leads to a scenic overlook. We were able to observe the penguins walking down to the water and going for a swim. It was so cute to see the bigger babies playing around at the edge of the water. This trip was so amazing. I am so glad we took this as a shore excursion from our cruise.

No doubt this was one of our highlights in our trip to Argentina. Punta Tombo is a colony with more than half a million Magellanic penguins. These are small (~40cm tall) penguins which are amazingly cute, and you can visit them in their natural habitat. The park itself is huge, but there is an organized walking path that you have to take in order not to interfere with the wildlife (there are also ostriches, guanacos and many types of birds there). As others mentioned previously, don’t stay with the first few penguins you see. Many, literally thousands of others follow very soon. You can see both baby penguins and adults, watch them at feeding sessions, nesting, mating and everything. While some have recommended going particularly early in the morning, we came at 10:30am, and the place wasn’t packed. It’s also large enough to find yourself a corner with some penguins and just spend time watching them and taking awesome photos.Apparently, this trip can be combined with a boat ride to see Tonina dolphins at Rawson, which we selected to do (+500 peso per person) and it was totally worth it. The Tonina dolphins are probably the smallest kind in the world, and they are bi-color, both black and white. The guide said there is 98% chance to see them while on the speedboat, and we saw many of them. The trip lasts about 1.5 hours.Lastly, the tour company took us to a place called Gaiman, which is apparently an historical place and the first colony of the Welsh in the region. It’s not an interesting place and if possible I would skip that part all together. We did the trip in Jan 2015 and the price was 560 peso for the tour + 500 for the dolphins boat ride. Entrance to the Tombo park wasn’t included and cost 130 peso.

We used Bottazzi Travel agency in Puerto Madryn to travel to this site to see the nesting site of the largest Magallenic penguin colony in Patagonia. Out guide Mimi was fabulous. She knows her geology, her history and the penguins. We had 90 minutes inside the protected area ( lots of resear h going on in the colony) to walk along paths and see the adults and juveniles in their nests, walking (shuffling actually) up to 1200 m to the water, pruning each other, cooling off and just being. Its a completely engaging experience and worth the tour cost of 560 pesos and the entrance fee of 130 pesos.

If you've never been to a penguin roockery, don't miss this one. Magellen penguins are incredibly special creatures. The males arrive here first, build a new nest or repair the one they used last year (and they remember where it was). The wife shows up a month later, checks out the job he did, and if she's satisfied that she's got a keeper, will move in, lay up to two eggs. The story of their time together is very interesting, the babies, then juvenile birds all have their roles to play. Depending on when you visit from October to March, you will see the family at different stages.

I really enjoyed seeing all of the Penguins in their natural habitat! it is a very nice walk although on many uneven rocky walkways. It was lovely seeing so many penguins - both young and old. Try to go early and if possible with a small group - when the buses arrive it is hard to walk. Also look for rheas (an ostrich like bird) and guanacos (look like llamas). The drive from Purrto Madryn was long 2 hours each way and part of the road (40 kilometers) is on a dusty gravel road.

We hired a private company to take us to the Penguins in Punta Tombo. We usually do this and avoid the exhorbitant charges of the cruise lines. They do try to frighten you by telling you the ship will leave without you if u are not back on time. I am definitely sure this has happened and will happen. So far it has not happened to us. The trip is a long one from Puerto Madryn to Punto Tombo about 1.1/2 to two hours...But the guide left enough time for that and dropping us off to shop a little. We were too tired and went directly back to the ship. Seeing the penguins walking in their natural habitat is amazing. But, DO NOT waste time photographing the first ones you see..that is what we did. Toward the end way far down there is a ramp that leads straight to the ocean...we were on the ramp next to it, but did not have enough time to make it to the last ramp...We turned right at the first intersection. It is amazingly beautiful to see how wonderful nature is. If only the world were that way. A word of caution...you can always take off your hoodie and sweater or coat...but definitely take them..the weather is unpredictable two hours from where the ship docks. If you are dressed properly you will be a happy camper...maybe even ecstatic. Hope this helps you. We organized our group on tripadvisor of course. It was great.

Our Celebrity cruise stopped at Puerto Madryn. Since we like penguins so much, we booked a tour to Punta Tumbo. What a fabulous place! We saw many thousands of penguins in their natural habitat. It was a pleasure to walk amongst them and observe their daily life. Punta Tumbo Rookery does a great job of making it easy to be quite close to these adorable creatures. If you are planning a trip to Patagonia and you like penguins, have a go at this place,

if you go at the right time (I went in December and it was perfect) you will get to see the babies, and interact with these beautiful animals. i spent almost 3 hours there and time flew!!! Also, i was staying in Puerto Madryn and didn't have time to do all the activities i wanted to due to time. So i decided to rent a car and make it at my own time, which worked perfectly! the buses leave early in the morning and i thing going around 3-4 is better because the place is less crowded. i loved it! attaching some pictures. The restaurant is pretty nice as well. i only had empanada but i can tell it's a good one by just trying that. do it!

We went to puerto madryn in January and tried about every attraction that allowed wildlife watching. This is by far the best, allowing to literally walk among thousands of penguins. Definitely worth the trip from trelew or puerto madryn.Tip: if you land at trelew airport early enough in the day, you can ask a cab to drive you there and back. For 2 or 3 people it will end up being cheaper than the tours offered in puerto madryn.

We visited Puerto Madryn in December. The Sentir Patagonia tour was a small group on a nice van. Our tour guide Diana kept us informed about the area on the long ride through scrub desert to Punta Tambo. There are no words to describe the thrill on seeing 100s of thousands of Magellanic Penguins in their burrows sitting with their recently born babies. It was a stunning experience of nature. Diane was sure to keep us from interfering with the penguins activities, but you were very close to them, as our hundreds of pictures attested to. We also saw wild guanacos and ostriches. Although there were ship tours there, she kept us away from the crowdsThe trip to and back can be somewhat boring, but the trill of seeing a massive penguin colony live is worth it.

Our family couldn't have stayed long enough at Punta Tombo so we were really glad we had our own rental car. Couldn't get enough of those cute little faces...enjoyed a great burger at the restaurant in the reserve. If you love photography, be sure to visit. Take your telephoto lens! A lot of the trip advisor comments were about the roads. Do not be afraid of driving. We are from Texas. They are just gravel roads. Also, they seem to be working a lot on the quality of the roads down there. Beware though, at our next location, El Calafate, Hertz canceled our reservation with only 1 1/2 days notice and left us big time stuck out on a limb.
