Very professional. Honest. Locations vary, but the one we went to was a private ranch with rivers, surrounded by mountains and WILD HORSES. So incredibly beautiful!
I asked Jorge to organize a fishing day for me and my 6 year old daughter. Not only was he extremely accomodating by dedicating his personal time (he picked me up at the hotel at 8:30 AM on January 1st), but he organized the perfect fishing day for both of us.I consider myself a beginner, and came back a much more confident fly angler. My daughter is a born again fly-fishing fan!I recommend Jorge and Calafate Fishing without hesitation.
I had a great day of fly fishing with guides Max and Daniel from Calafate Fishing and fishing friends Gabriel from Argentina en Abriel from Brasil. Max and Daniel took us to Rio Pelque, a narrow river (width varied from 4 to 6 meter), 120km south of El Calafate. What a great river! I caught 15 beautiful brook trout, half of them 30cm or bigger, mainly on simple nymphs. Everything was provided by Califate Fishing. Waders, rods, flies: all of excellent quality and included in the price. And what a lunch! Cheese, sausage, and beautiful Patagonia lamb (prepared on the spot in what seemed like a big black paella pan), accompanied with ample supplies of beer and Malbec red wine. I was picked up from my hotel at 8 in the morning, and returned happily to my wife at 9,30 in the evening. This was one of my best fishing trips ever!
A brilliant fly fishing trip despite the wind on the Steppe! The guides were great company and the lunch provided was first class.
To keep it simple... they are extremely rude and they dont help you at all. They use nice fishing poles while they give you poles that can probably hold a 1lb fish max before breaking. They did not help at all.. they basically dropped us off.. and went to their own spot to do their own thing. I know quite a bit about fishing. I do it all the time in NY. Well they gave us the worst lures possible and used good ones for themselves.. When i asked if I could use one of their lures they wanted to charge me 100 pesos! When we would ask questions, they would laugh or straight up ignore us. The worst experience ive had so far in argentina
We did a full day trip. The first half was shared with two hapless young guys who had never fly fished before. I doubt they will again. After ten minutes intstruction they were let loose on the water and barely saw the "guide" again. We were fishing a barren stretch of the R.Rico in some cow paddock. The "guide" happily fished away offering no guidance. We didn't need much, it was obvious we were fishing an algae infested stream. After an hour of pulling in 3" fingerlings I suggested we move. To no avail. The "guide" had brought a mate along with whom he fished every bit of half decent water before the paying guests could reach it. I walked off totally disgusted and ripped off. The afternoon guide was much better.
Great guides, beautiful scenery and many fish. A fantastic excursion in southern patagonia
Wonderful place to visit. We took the obligatory boat trip on Lake Argentina to view the multiple glaciers and had a delightful day. However we also took a private tour of the nearby national park and glacier and LOVED it. They have constructed metal walkways along the cliffs just across from the glacier and it was even more exciting than seeing them on the boat. I took the 1/2 day fishing trip with Calafate Fishing and strongly caution anyone from going. First, the fishing was only fair at best but the company is not well run. Their equipment was old and worn. On the way back to town the driver was racing down a dirt road and lost control of the truck and we crashed into an embankment and flipped the truck over. I had my seat belt on and only received minor injuries but the young man in the back seat was more seriously injured and required hospital care. The company made no accommodations or even an apology for their reckless behavior. This is not a company to be trusted. I would strongly recommend that you save your fishing for one of Argentina's better outfitters.
