A picture postcard place with great photo ops, Bahai Lapataia is worth the visit. We went to Laguna Esmerelda in the morning and Bahai Lapataia in the afternoon during a one day stop while on a Celebrity Cruise. We used Linea Regular/Transporte for transportation from Ushuaia--200 pesos, about $20.00 round trip---nice big white vans. If you want this budget-friendly and independent option, walk off the ship to the large brown tourist information building which is located directly across the street from the Port of Ushuaia, and ask the very helpful multilingual staff. They'll mark a free city map for you and point out the direction to walk--only two short blocks to the vans. A van will take you to Bahia Lapataia, drop you off, and pick you up at a specified time and place.
As many other places in Tierra del Fuego, it has beautiful scenery views. Not very far from Ushuaia. I only wish if we could go near the sea to take pictures. There is a wooden walk path not very long which stays too far from the mountain and from the sea.
We took a half a day tour that takes you to several places to include a brief stop at this stop where everyone takes a picture next to this sign. The other places visited were: el Tren del Fin del Mundo, a brief visit to Tierra del Fuego National Park & a quick visit to see the views at Lago Roca. Overall, I enjoyed the excursion & I recommend it.
Interesting sights in Tierra del Fuego. The surrounding areas of Ushuaia are beautiful with plenty of sights to explore.
We enjoyed our brief stay here and the catamaran ride in the bay. We saw a number of canoeists and kayaks. Scenery is magnificent.
Within Tierra del Fuego National Park is Bahia Lapitaria. You are surrounded by nature here with beautiful views of the whole bay. You need to hike a bit off the road to get to to the site but it's worth it.
This is a scenic bay with a boardwalk style pier. It is a nice hike from the visitors center or you can take a cab or micro all the way to the bay.
Gorgeous views at the end of an easy hike. I think there are guided tours here, but we took a bus (the stop is close to the tourist info centre and next to a gas station) for 200 pesos a head round trip. There are buses leaving to the park every hour, but only return on a set schedule - they drop you off at 3 different locations in the park and will pick you up from one of them - but you have to let them know which stop you want to be picked up from so they know to expect you there. We chose to be dropped off at a different stop, and picked up from the end of Route 3, at the bay. There is a short boardwalk nearby to go out for a view of the bath - it is handicapped accessible. Nearby - about a 15 minute hike with some elevation - is also a view point that gives you a view of the whole bay.
We took a van from the station in Av. Maipu (Estacion Linea Regular, AR$200 per person) and asked to leave in the last station of the National Park, very close to Bahia Lapataia. Just a few minutes in an easy track later and we were surrounded by this wonderful nature, ocean (channel), mountains and forest, it's really beautiful!!
This bay is at the end of the Pan-American Hwy in Tierra del Fuego National Park. It's only 30 min west from Ushuaia. We rented a car which was great because we could stop for photos anywhere we wanted and there were several great photo opps......After you park at the end of the road, there are a few trails....we only did the boardwalked ones over the tundra to the viewing stations at the end......there were a bunch of kayakers coming in (their transport was waiting in the parking lot). Incredible views.....drizzly rain a lot of the time....don't let it stop you from walking out to the view stations....they are only a couple hundred meters.....5 min walk. There is a fee to enter the National Park.....I think it was around US$30 for the 2 of us in a car. Well worth it....
If you are going to travel all the way to Ushuaia, you might as well see the beautiful scenery. It does not get much better than this. There are lots of beautiful spots to see and this is one of them. Simple as that. There are trails to walk and the views are unbelievable.
This location has a good view of the lake and opens to some good hikes. The wooden structure itself is nothing special, just marks the end location of Pan-American Highway, which is sort of a legend itself than a clear-defined highway. It is beautiful to stop and take a rest...
Good views in the middle of the nature, quite place and good organization of the park stuff. The riba costera walking is a little bit heavy but possible to do!Nice place to stay all day!
Of course if you are travelling to Ushuaia, specially if by car, you will want to go and take a photo at the end of Route National 3. After being on the road for almost 10 days driving from Brazil all way down, was a pleasure to visit this place.
beautiful bay, nice view, must go if in Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego. Some hikes can be accessed thru here
