As a biologist I was expecting the worst (a shoddy 3rd rate lion park in No-where'sville Denmark). What an amazing surprise!. I was REALLY impressed. Animals were very well kept, enclosures large and humaneStaff were educated and friendly, ... even the guy serving fries at the cafe was attending University studying Zoology. My kids (9 & 12) had an awesome time.I didnt expect to be driving in my car (in Denmark!) and having mature African male lions feet from my car window (windows up of course). Wife was freaking out but loving it! what a great experience!Next time I go I will bring BBQ stuff and enjoy the free gas grills
We arrived in own vehicle and did the drive- in. Really great experience. My 8-year old was extatic and scared. The animals came really close to the car, which made the hole thing like an adventure. We went to see the lions and had no expectations. But due to feeding we could park the car and watch them from 10 m distance for as long as we wanted. I highly recommend Givskud Zoo. Especially with kids!!
The park is huge, clean and friendly. Most people drive in their own car in it, but you can also drive around by bus - and actually you can walk around in the park and reach / see most animals by foot. The best thing of the visit is that you get allowed to see the animals in close to normal surroundings. It's such a sad thing to keep mighty animals in small cages - and Givskud doesn't. All in all : family friendly (even not a problem to bring your dog)with a lot of animals, quite a huge playground for kids and a lot of places to eat your own food (you can even bring steak or sausages and borrow a grill for free. My favourit one day visit spot in Denmark.
We had a great day. It was fun for all ages. We did not see it all in one day. Great to get that close to the animals :)
A bit scary driving among the lions, but also really exciting and different from the typical zoo visit. Definitely a place I would go again!
I was positively surpised that the Zoo was free for handicapped people. Giveskud Zoo allows you to drive among the great animals and you can walk through some fencings. There are actually quite a few old fashioned cages. The conditions for most of the animals looked to be quite OK. The variety of the animals is rather wide. Even if we visited the Zoo in the middle of July it was not too crowded. It is really good value for money and I can truly recommend it especially to families with children (6-12 years).
Being in Jutland, a visit to the Giveskud Zoo, located fairly close to Legoland, was an opportunity we decided to test. In many ways the Zoo carries the same set-up and presentation as the Knuthenborg Safaripark at South Zealand. In Knuthenborg the great attraction is the Tigers; In Giveskud it's is the Lions. So it you decide to visit such a safari park, make your choice - doing both is a waste of money. It would have noice if they had differentiated the display and the animals, but also here, rhinos, girafs, cattle, etc. remains identical. Also consider to have lunch before you enter, as the quality of the food in the diffent eats, are rather poor.
My daughter was a bit scared when we drove in the lions den, but soon warmed up when she saw the lion 60 centtimeters from the car, just yawning at her. She really enjoyed driving through and watching the different animals, not to pricey either,so no problem reccomending this place. Shut all windows in the car, flies everywhere..
Great to se lions, giraffes, zebras and many other animals from close view. Good cd commentary included to the fee and also booklets available in many languages (very surprised to see Finnish one). Check feeding times before going to also see some more action.
We have with family good time there. We spend 5 hours during safari. We were driving our own car around zoo and we parked car on every parking and go around. It is good idea to take with you launch basket and have break in nature and hear voice of animals or even see them.It is one of best zoo I have been because we could see really fresh animals. We could chance to see how they feeding wolves, elephants and we could get some news about these animals when they were feeding. Nice place to go there.
This is by far one of our favourite places in all of Denmark. No matter how you are feeling, in the mood for a good long walk or a nice drive through "Africa" Givskud offers a great experience for family and kids a like. The zoo is beautiful cared for and the animals are always so healthy and happy. There is also a large playground both for small and older children, which makes it a great place for the kids to have fun and you to relax after your trip through the zoo. To see everything and enjoy it to the fullest, I recommend a full day and don't hesitate to bring a picnic as there are plenty of spots to eat!
We had e fantastic day here in the park even if the day was windy and chill. Since our visit was early in the season some of the animals was still in inside, but that was ok. The keepers do a nice job explaining the animals during the feeding times, so please try to be there during the feeding times. It is nice that some of the areas in the zoo is accessible by car, som just by walking.
Fantastic Zoo, driving into the Lions with your own car is an amazing experience and the whole zoo is great with open space, animals quite free and close by + great kids park at the end.
Really enjoyed our day although it took us a while to understand how it works. You can park your car at the entrance and walk around a lot of the park but the best experience is taking your car in and parking at each of the numbered car parks. Highlights for us were the elephants, giraffes and best of all the gorillas :) we will definitely be visiting again.
The lion drive through was like being at Knowsley Safari park, pretty impressive. But then the zoo gets better. Good kids areas, and unlike Knowsley, not a rip off. Highly recommended.
