The visit to the museum is essential not only to art-lovers, but to anyone who tours this beautiful country. The selection of paintings is astounding.

Nice pictures and special Tuxen exhibition was fine. A relatively small museum but traditional Skagenpainters are well represetated

Don't expect the Louvre for the Skagen Museum is small. They are building a second wing (as summer 2014) though, that should be completed by autumn 2015. It is not uncommon for the pictures to be positioned in from of the windows, so expect to watch part of the collection from a tilted perspective (harsh light and oil on canvas are not a great combination). The Tuxen special exibition (until sept 2014) it's absolutely fantastic, truly worth the road up till there. The permanent collection is very interesting, but rather poor ( in numbers only! ). Take a walk through the garden to the P.S. Krøyer studio, where he finished the famous 'Hip hip, hurray!' painting (the original is now held by the Goteborg Gallery) and where now the story of that picture is told.

Loved the setting and the art. Go while you are in Skagen. The exhibits don't change very often, however, it is a wonderful small museum. The cafe wasn't bad either.

When we visited there was an exhibition by Laurits Tuxen. Interesting. Some paintings of other Skagen artists were also on display but not that many as the museum is quite small. I expected to see more of the "Skagen light". Nevertheless a positive experience. Nice shop and café.

When in Skagen this is a must, good for kids too, and with a nice little cafe in the garden. Spend a couple of hours here, art and nature - that´s what Skagen and the museum is about.

No words necessary. Skagen painters are world-famous! First you take the walk to Grenen and experience the Northern light of Skagen, then lunch at Brøndums with Herring, beer and snaps. Then go to the Skagen Museum - and reveal that they captured the magnificent scenery!

Surprising nice experience to find this little art museum in the northern tip of Denmark. It caps our day trip to Skagen after a nice time at the beach and a great time at the beach. Many thanks to my host to take time to show us around in Skagen.

Been there before and its just amazing. Can walk around just staring into the amazing paintings. Visit the place if you need a good experience and want to learn about the famous Skagen painters.

I first came across "Skagen paintings" at AROS Museum in Aarhus a few years ago during a conference trip. Now I go there every year and visit AROS everytime, mostly because of those paintings. This year we visited Skagen as a family and went to the Skagen Museum. The building of the museum is itself beautiful with a garden in the middle. They had the Laurits Tuxen exhibition, which was very good. But for me, nothing is more impressive and touching than the P.S. Kroyer and V. Johansen paintings. Everything about those paintings seem more real than the reality. You should definitely take your time during your visit and enjoy it more than once; may be take a break and have some coffee and rhubarb pie in the garden and then come back in. I think it's worth visiting Skagen just for this museum.

Skagen has one of the most beautifull lights. Sea can colour in shades of blue and gray you've never seen before. This has inspired many artists and a small amount of paintings can be seen in the Skagen Museum.

The light in Skagen has attracted some great artists through time, and it is very interesting to see how they manage to do that. Also the portraits of people are great.

Skagen is a long detour from the rest of Jutland and the rest of Denmark but the Skagen Museum makes it worth the time to get here. The town is pretty enough and the shoreline is spectacular. We were blown away by the beautiful works here. The way that the artists represented here used the local light in their art is amazing. They are among the first to actually paint out in the field rather than sketch and then paint in their studios. The art is very nicely presented and there is a lot of background info on the artists and their lives in Skagen. The preserved dining room of a local hotel where the artists would stay and eat is fascinating too. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Denmark

When you go to Denmark, go to Skagen. The art museum there is the toots ice-cream of museums. Great paintings, great building, and close to the water. Right up there with Legoland Billund, (which is huge coming from a lego freak like me!) so don't take it as another boring art museum, take it as a horizon to view good art, and have fun!
