The museum's heart is a delightful glass-domed conservatory, replete with palm trees and a gorgeous cafe that's especially welcoming in the Danish winter.
First if you can visit it on a Sunday - it's free. Has some of the best Rodin to be seen out of New York, as well as a good collection of the romantics. My main interest was the Etruscan collection and it was well worth the viewing.
Not to be missed. Beautiful space. Multiple rooms to visit...take in as much as you can. Degas ballerina was on view when we were there... I wished I had taken more time in that space. The art is amazing and the space alone is worth the visit
Beautiful relaxing place to while away a Sunday morning looking at the many statues and paintings. It's free on a Sunday.
very good place nice food. very good place nice food.very good place nice food.very good place nice food.
The early river valley civilization collection is a must see! If I make it to Copenhagen again I will visit.
We did have high expectations going to this art gallery and they were more than fulfilled! The collection is so extensive, and even though some of the gallery was closed for renovation, there was so much to see. We spent 3 hours here, but you could easily spend a lot longer. You need a 10 kronur coin to work the lockers.
This museum is one of the best in Scandinavia and well worth the time. It's free on Sunday as a way to save some money in a very expensive town-but I would allow all day if you are interested in art. It's an amazing collection, far more than you realize when you start. The hours listed in guide books don't always match, so double check before you go. The only air conditioning was in certain small rooms of paintings and I was there during a heat wave, something to keep in mind.A very wide range of art from sculpture to paintings to an ancient art section. Plus, the building itself is architecturally interesting. Highly recommend.
It is February. It is cold. Glyptotek has a "winter garden" and that is reason enough to go, as you can have lunch looking at big, tall palm trees. I wanted to see the French art touted on a huge sign outside. But...when I entered the building, I saw lots and lots of sculpture, and I was not having a "sculpture day." (Although Rodin's "The Kiss" would probably have been worth it and there it was!) I spoke with the ticket seller and bought my ticket. What a treat. The collection has about 160 paintings and is extremely well curated. There were Degas bronze figures he made to use as studies for paintings, so that he could see the horses, people, whatever, in different directions and light. There are a bunch of Gauguin paintings too. Did you know he had a Danish wife? On the top floor of this collection is a painting by Sisley, "Waterworks at Bougival," which was in the very first Impressionist show -- There is a long, correct, name for the group and if you can go, read the handouts in each room for a super quick art education. Picasso and Van Gogh are also represented. We have been to a lot of museums over the last 10 weeks and I am sort of "arted out" but I am very glad we went. By the way, the museum has a huge collection of other art--Mediterranean, Etrucan, Egyptian including lots of sculpture. FREE on Sundays.
Beautiful building full of germs of art - and moreover free admission on Sunday(which we did not know)! We spent about half a day in there but you might need 2 or 3 days to discover all the treasures inside. If you are interested in ancient sculptures or paintings by the most famous Impressionists, you will find it there. When tired, you can have a cup of coffee and a cake in the cafe in the large entrance hall. Shortly - a breathtaking gallery with extraordinary collections. Definitely worth visiting even if you have to pay to get in :-).
I had such a pleasant surprise going to this place. I didn't really do any research about things to do in Copenhagen but this place was amazing. On Sunday it's free! Seeing Rodin's "The Thinker" was brilliant and the whole gallery is really beautiful. I only wish I had more time to spend there. Must see in Copenhagen.
Lovely museum. Quiet and low key but filled with real quality art. The roman pieces from Palmyra are the best in existence and even more precious given the recent looting of the ruins and museums in Syria.
Fantastic paintings and sculpture. Fascinating new extension to original building. Descriptions in Danish & English
