We made a local friend a few days before and he brought us out to Russky Island for a day trip. The weather was great and we hired a bike and rode along the water front. We had a pleasant day.Downfall is there's not much going on besides the university. So much more could be done in terms of restaurants or cafes. Finding the place to hire a bike was very difficult. No signs or anything. We ended up having a campus professor ring someone for us to find out.

If you'd like to going around the Island, you can rent a bike from FEFU.It's not easy to find the rental shop, but there is.At the first level of dormitory building, you can find it.It was very nice to cycling in an Island since the weather was so nice.Should anybody who wants to do something out of the beaten track, do it.You will find another view of Vladivostock from the other side.

as a event organiser we are using the russky FEFU facilities during our 2013 and 2014 event,so because of this we are using the HOTEL buildings in the resort, we are locating people from all over the world during our events, apart from some issues who nobody can solve like brown (darkbrown) hot water (pictures can be issued) and some more minor details the hotel is not to bad at all !! BUT the communication between security and hotel is far away from a holiday feeling, the whole park as very big and the distance between the different buildings and the entry gates is very very big, so if people are ordering a taxi security doesn't allowed taxi's to enter the facilities to pick up the guests, nobody able to talk or solve this modern world problem. so only solution was leaving to the city to change hotel and enjoy freedom again, very sad for a new holiday opportunity !!!

I was here for the first time when there was no bridge jet. It was the perfect pastime: sail on a yacht and have a picnic on the beach. Now the island is more accessible, more visitors. It is possible to see more the natural and historical attractions. But, nevertheless, pay tribute to traditions – organize a picnic on the beach, where there are still remaining authentic restaurants.

Russky Island, once a distant home for Russian military personnel stationed in Vladivostok, now has one of the leading, international universities in Russia. The Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU or DVFU in Russian) sits on Ajax Bay looking across the water toward the city of Vladivostok. The island reportedly has a species of fox that is endemic only to the island. FEFU is a new university on track to be one of the leading higher education institutions in Russia. The campus is built and operated to international standards and currently hosts approximately 25,000 students. The City of Vladivostok and Russky Island were "closed" to any outsiders during the Soviet period but in the last 5-10 years, it has seen incredible growth and new infrastructure and is a welcoming city for foreign guests.

It's best to go there at summer, so you can enjoy seaside and nature. This island is not crowded by people, it have new university city, and it's just starting developing. As result many beaches are wild, so if you are backpacker you can have a walking track there. A lot of beatiful viewpoints around, and military fortress on this island, which is opened for tourists. You can find free map on the road there, volunteers just staying on the road to help a tourists.

Anton our improvised guide in Vladivostok took us to the Russian-wide famous seafood restaurant on Russky Island, crossing the World's longest-span bridge. We had the best scallops and took great photos of the bridge! If you need a guide in Vladivostok, he's the man and speaks perfect English!

We spent an interesting day tour with a local military history/archaeological club visiting the incredible Voroshilov Battery No. 981 with its massive battery of six 12 inch naval guns salvaged in the early1930's from a Russian Dreadnought battleship and then visited the huge installation of Fort No. 9. This immense fortification is a marvel of construction with over 7 kms of tunnels many of which it is possible to explore. The tour took us across rough pot holed dirt roads (built in 1910) that criss-cross the island. These sites are an amazing and unique piece of local military history that form a major part of the fortress city of Vladivostok. When you travel across Russian Island it is hard to believe that during the war years over one million trees were felled to enable the defending forces clear lines of sight of the invading enemy...interesting stuff and a "must see" if you are visiting Vladivostok.

This is a big, beautiful and interesting island was open to citizens only in 1990, and until that time the island was closed and there were the masters - the military. Here is the most "new" castle, Vladivostok, covering the approach to the city, but unfortunately this fortress (forts and dungeons) is now in poor condition. The island of 18 km, width - 13 kilometers, the total area of 98 square kilometers, with a population today of 6,000 residents. You can get here by ferry, which reaches three points on an island in the eastern part of the island, as well as the world's largest cable-stayed bridge built in 2012. Now, for this island offers significant prospects, due to the expansion plan of the Federal University and the Aquarium, private construction, already a plan for the island. At the shore of the island stretch out some very beautiful bays, the largest of which - the bay Novick. Stretched a long, narrow sleeves from north-west to south-east more than 12 km, it remains his main internal transport artery. There are several lakes and small islands that attract fishermen and tourists. Pros: the beauty of nature, the presence of fortifications and a new bridge is technically an artery, a police station. Cons: The highway runs into a dead end but in the interior of the island is very poor roads, no toilets, only one gas station, mobile communication is not available everywhere. Find 2 or 3 hours, go over the bridge and take this with a video camera and drinks. Overall a very interesting and promising. Recommend!
