As one of the main water arteries of Europe Danube can provide a lot to tourists. Of course Bulgaria, being a poor country, has not developed and exploited at all all the positives of this fantastic tourist resource. In Rousse specifically, the "walking" area down along the river is in miserable situation, no lamps, no normal pavement, no places to stop for a coffee or drink, no pavilions to by some souvenirs, or cigarettes...There is one fish-restaurant on a boat - not really exciting...And if you go few kilometers outside of Rousse to Lyulyaka Place you will find few taverns on a row, trying to do sth but really not successfully...It is a shame for such a great area not to be developed! And the blame is not for the people, but for the politicians who cannot decide how to share the profit, so finally they prefer to leave the place to ruin that to develop it...
In winter - watching the ice floes slowing make their way down stream. In summer - seeing the kids diving in and swimming
I liked going down to the Danube, but I must say it looks awesome in Austria, but by this point it is very polluted which is a real shame.Scary stories about bodies washing down from the Balkan conflict though!
The part which is next to Russe center,is perfect for a walk and relaxing.Dont miss the sunset. Many cruising ships, some restaurants, many trees.
Just to see this river is a pleasure! It is so wide and beautiful. Crossing over on the train to Romania gives a great view!
If you're staying in central Ruse, it's just a few minutes' walk to the Danube ... which is undoubtedly (in good weather) a mighty and impressive river ... but what's disappointing is the absence of terraces or vantage points where you could have a coffee and view the river ... only a couple of scruffy cafes ...
Very few Bulgarians are even familiar with the splendors of the coast here. Tutrakan, between Rousse and Silistra, is particularly unknown, because it was a no-go area during communism, however it is wonderful town with Roman roots, amazing river views, and several good museums. Most specifically, large parts of the Bulgarian Danube are eco-zones and bird sanctuaries- a nature lover's delight.
The Danube is an excellent river. Narrow at its source, but here in Ruse, broad and impressive. I highly recommend it.
The Danube River is a wonderful place to travel along. You can visit beautiful cities both in Romania and Bulgaria and have a look on the ancient Greek or Roman heritage landmarks in these cities. Danube Delta is especially beautiful and unique. The best time to visit is Spring and Autumn when you can find a lot of birds and fish species along the colors of trees and plants.
I came in from Romania on very slow train and the surroundings of Ruse had lots of ghastly tower blocks and river looked polluted. I wish I,D gone to the delta where ther,s lots of wild life
Lovely to be in a city and yet the big peacful Danube alongside you. Some good places to eat are located on the banks and its an amazing place to catch the sunset.
You can have a great view on the river if you stay at Riga Hotel, or just take a short walk from the town center.
The Danube runs alongside the beautiful city of Rousse, although whether it is worth a visit depends upon which part you see. We stayed at the Hotel Luliaka, opposite Luliaka island where the Danube is calm and beautiful, although only a few miles to the east and it becomes a busy and somewhat dirty port, complete with floating debris. Choose your location wisely and the beautiful Danube is well worth some of your time.
The blue sky reflecting on the water was wonderful and the sunsets equally beautiful. It is good to see the boats in this very busy area.
visited various locations in Ruse as well as outside. Sometimes difficult to get to but there always seemed rubbish lying around. Disappointing
