As we walked around the central Sofia, we stumbled across the monumental building of National Theater, named after the Bulgarien writer, Ivan Vazov. It is located in Vasil Levski street, near the Cathedral of Saint Alexander Nevsky and Hagia Sofia Church. There is a nice park with fountains, that encircles this beautiful edifice. Looks great, with its neoclassical facade. We did not entered at that time, but ones say, that inside is real traditional setting of one cultural institution from the last century. It is an oldest and most authoritative theatre in the country.
very nice place to grab a photo or two while walking around central Sofia.Did not have the chance to enter, but the building looks great from the outside.
Named after one of the greatest Bulgarian writers, the National theatre carries the beautiful core of the past glorious days...
The national theatre is probably one of the most beautiful buildings in Sofia. It is surrounded by a nice park with fountains. The inside is a traditional theatre setting from the last century but well preserved. It is worth a visit especially in the summers.
The exterior of the building is magnificent though you can't get inside wthout the purchase of a ticket to a show. The theatre sits in the middle of the park which is lovely to sit in and enjoy an icecream and the live music. There are fountains to watch as well as the many chess games, some are very serious and competitive to the clock and some are merely social. if you are very lucky you may get invited to play as I did, quite a challenge when you don't speak the local language but fun, I was soon beaten though.
The building of National Theater is very beautiful. Almost every evening there are interesting productions. The park nearby is a nice place for photos.
...combined with one of the most vivid, interesting, authentic and beautiful squares in town. It's Sofia at it's best! Visting on a sunny day is lovely!Look out for the mostly old people playing chess for money - they've been around for the past 50 years :-)The theatre itself is something you MUST see - and the quality of the theatrical performances is top notch - if you understand Bulgarian.
I love to go inside in the National theater just to watch the interior, the sculpture, I love just to sit outside of the theater, on a front of the fountains, just to be part for a minute of this lovely place!Everybody know how sweet is to drunk at night with friends on summer time :)
Beautiful building in the heart of Sofia. In front of it there is a lovely square with a fountain surrounded by gardens and a few cafes. During the day the square is full of people of all ages, while in the evening and at night you can find mostly young people . A pleasure to sit down and just watch people pass
One of the must see buildings in Sofia. If You have time for, try to get ticket for an evening theatre.
The park in front of the building is very well maintained with wonderful fountain and usually a place where lots of young people, street musicians and chess players gather. The building of the theater is magnificent and there you can watch many great plays.
One of the most beautiful building in the city center. Nice park in front with many coffee shops. Good to sit and have a drink outside when the weather is good. To watch a play is necessary to have tickets in advance,as they finish quick.
Watch a play and then stay in the park or take a cold Bulgarian beer and your smile and go there in the evening when the weather is good. Best on September when everyone is back in Sofia after a seaside adventure. Have fun
In the city centre, easy to get to, watch out for people trying to sell you mobile phones. A bit of a park off the square where locals have lunch.
This is another building with a beautifully photogenic exterior. The fountains in front of the building actually work and have a pretty sculpture of a dancer in the water. I didn't visit the inside.
