It is very very dark inside, you cannot see the frescos and the details of the architecture clearly... But of course a must see in Sofia and a spiritual place to be...

In Sofia there are really very few turistic attraction and is interesting to visit but if you compare with Kiev this Cathedral looks really poor . I visit first time in the 60 and was used like a market place with shops inside now is retourned to the original use of Church but need an important renovation for retourn to the original beauty .

This is the most famous attraction in Sofia. It's not a monument, it's a working orthodox church. My guide took me here on a Sunday morning, when morning service going on. Actually he also a orthodox Christian, well explained every thing about the church and what's going on. Building is very charming look from outside. Inside beautiful wall paintings everywhere. Building is not large like Helsinki cathedral but definitely eye catching monument. Worth a visit.

Super, if you have free time it is value to see this Cathedral, located in city center.... Nice architecture and icons.

Located in the center of Sofia, it`s for sure the landmark of the area, very big and very beautiful. There is no fee to enter, and there are masses from time to time

Lovely cathedral but unless work is done on it soon, the damp will ruin it. There are already signs of deterioration

It's one of city's landmarks, beautiful gold domes. Inside is equally impressive although a bit more light would have given a better perspective on the beauty of the architecture and the icons. On the sublevel there is a well curated orthodox art museum. Worth spending the time.

this is the most famous building in Sofia. they have shot some sceens for 007 movies here. A night time if you have a drink in the Sence Hotel roof top bar you can get a perfect picture of the old buildings. Sofia city is a bit smashed up but maybe this adds to the romance for some people.

Great voices, spiritual atmosphere, a monument full of history, although relatively young g for the Bulgarian standards. in a country with relics of more than 2000 years, a breathtaking cathedral only 100 years old is definitely a landmark worth visiting. Go there at Sunday at 9.30, sacrifice the lazy breakfast and enjoy the unique service with a choir and sometimes the Bulgarian patriarch. pity. that the Bulgarian visitors are so few..

For a capital city, Sofia is a little light on landmarks and "must-see" locations, so I was inevitably drawn towards the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on a morning amble through the ciity centre.Having skirted along the main roads from Sveta Sofia, the Cathedral soon loomed into view and it was immediately very impressive.Perhaps this is due to it's protected location, sat in a vast open area with no nearby buildings crowding it out - somewhat similar to the Arc de Triomphe, it's at the centre of a roundabout system, but in no sense anywhere near as dangerous to cross on foot!As soon as you step inside, the sheer scale of the place is apparent. I've been to Aya Sofya in Istanbul and Sofia's main cathedral is not too far behind in epic nature. It's greatest elements are the astoundingly well-preserved frescoes and mosaics, which depict a number of well known bilblical figures and stories.A surprise was the total lack of any floor-standing furniture, but perhaps this allows as many worshippers as possible to attend services at the cathedral.Easily the most interesting and attractive of all of Sofia's sights, the cathedral deserves a good hour of any visitor's time.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a must when you visit Sofia. I walked there at night and again during daylight. It is really astonishing!

This is located on the top of a hill and it is a magnificient building from the 20th century dedicated to the Russian Saint alexandar Nevski. This place was wrongly shown as a church in St Petersburg(Russia) in the movie Hitman agent 47. This is to give justice to Sofia where you really need to go if you want to visit this beautiful piece of architecture.

It was one of the highlights of our trip to Sofia. Walking around the outside of the cathedral was a pleasure and the market nearby was nice too. It was definitely a place to sit and look at from a nearby cafe.
