Hello! I went alone and by foot and it was excellent. The crew from Wanderer travel explained to me how to get there and i am really not sorry for not taking the public transport( 20 min tram ride from the main square and then 2-3 hours by foot), or 40 min with public transport. Do not miss this, especially the food up there(so cheap and so good)
It's a great place for all of these things and it's very easy to get to from the center of Zagreb (easier still from 2017 when the new cable car is expected to go into operation). If you like art, history, ruins and vistas you can go to Medvedgrad castle. You can hike or bike for days on clearly marked hiking and biking trails, sample local delicacies at many mountain huts/hotels/restaurants, ski during winter, barbecue on nice days. It's good for families, couples, friends or just going solo. The view from the very top is gorgeous and on a clear day you can easily see the Alps very far into Slovenia and even the mountains close to Hungary and towards the Adriatic coast.
If you walk up or take a car or a bus it is an amazing view all the way up. When you are actually there the restaurants are nice and has good local food.
There are not many cities that can boast to be right next to the town of mountains, just with it boasts Zagreb. The mountain is preserved and citizens is used for excursions and walking
Few of one million in the immediate vicinity has this big hill that hosts the competition for svijestski Cup skiing. Too bad more locals do not use this hill for sports and recreation
Forest, fresh air and tranquility - all within 30 minutes from the center of the city. Great place for sport, relaxing or just spending some time outdoor with your friends and/or family.
We had seen everything we had planned to in Zagreb so thought we'd spend the day walking up this mountain. This is a really enjoyable walk but it's no stroll in the park so be prepared and have decent shoes/clothing and sufficient drinks, particualrly if it is hot (although you can get food and drinks at the top).To get there, take tram 14 (which you can get from the main square, J.Jelicica) to the final stop Mhaljevac and then tram 15 to the final stop, Dolje. Go through the children's playgroud and then through a tunnel. After the tunnel there are some stairs on the left hand side; go up the stairs and then left at the top and walk to the old house and then go right and on the path past the old house. From here there are painted signs on the trees/paths to show the way, mainly a red circle with white centre and also some white arrows and a yellow symbol. It's pretty easy to follow the red circle with white centre signs right to the top and back. After walking for an hour or so there's a bit, quite near the tarmaced road (but after you've bisected the road), where the trail splits into a dirt track road (big enough for a car) and a much stepper narrow path on the left. Both had the red and white signs and will take you to the same place ultimately, but the step path is much quicker to get to the top.It took us about 3 hours on the way up and about 2 hours on the way down and we stopped for an hour in a resturant at the top and had a lovely, and very cheap, meal.Really pleased we did this and there are some really good views on the way up and at the top.
This was a nice one day trip. There are many nice spots to visit: some small churches, green views, eating places etc. We highly recommended it.
Everything that we saw and feel visiting Medvednica mountain and Sljeme was to remember the experience the whole life. Sightseing from Sljeme to Zagreb, reastaurant Tomislavov dom and especially Sljemenska gibanica.
if you are the extreme type than this is too easy for you. On weekends the trail leading up to the summit becomes one of the favorite past time of the people of Zagreb. If youre lookin for a break from the city, head out to the trail, at the top you will find great apple strudel. To start take the tram from Mihalijavac station to dolje, the final station and just follow the markings.
always a pleasant temperature in the summer is no problem they can spend all day, excellent homemade food when it comes to the top
I decided to walk up, which took quite a while, so if you are up for a challenge and have good company and time, then can be a nice walk up. Lovely trees on the way up, especially auburn during autumn. Definitely worth the visit... Including a church on the way up. Not much else on the way up.
We took tram 14 from the main square then the bus to the top for about £3 return. If I was doing it again I would hire a car and spend the full day. There are loads of walks, hotels, bars etc for a few beers if you take the bus. Most places sell food as well. It is great for bikes or walks with the dog and the scenery amazing. An excellent day out.
Zagreb is still a city where people stay just for a few days, so they usually miss some lovely places. Medvednica is one of them. Locals go there often because it's a nature park full of mountain trails, mountain lodges, and beautiful nature sights.
...for hiking, walking, skiing, cycling or anything else you like to do in nature. You can hike to top or come with ropeway or car. There is a few restaurants. If you really like to walk you can come to top and go down on oposite side Zagorje area.
