The countryside unfolds around you there is no hurry you are driving through the beautiful Istrian countryside of Northern Croatia near Monjan. The entrance, just around a curve catches you by surprise. As you pull up the drive it looks more like a nice country estate than a wine tasting venue but upon entering you are met by multi lingual Koni- she switches languages like she is native to all countries.Great wines since 1891 this EKO organic winery features crisp white and robust red natural wines, all wines are a minimum of two years old. We enjoyed and took with us the 2010 Teran and the 2012 Cab. the Malvazija Unica with its' fine oak taste. The natural wines of this and the Slovenian Istria are quickly turning this region into an area of fine wine producers.

We stopped in to Kabola for a quick tasting before closing time. The host, Connie (Koni?), was so informative and sweet, professional but relaxed-- made for a very pleasant visit, we were quite impressed! She didn't hesitate to have us try many of their excellent wines, and I learned a lot. The winery itself is gorgeous, and looks like something right out of Napa Valley.

We did an organised wine tasting at Kabola Winery as part of the Back-Roads Touring Co “Flavours of Northern Croatia & Slovenia” tour. It’s a beautiful setting and the cellar door staff were great and their facilities were excellent. It was a dark brooding afternoon with thunderstorms building and that only added to the atmosphere. The wines (and finger food) we tased were all very good and the staff were very helpful with their advice on different vintages etc. When the storm took the power out they carried on with candles and took it all in their stride. A lovely afternoon and well worth a visit.

We read about Kabola in Rick Steves' Guide. He never disappoints. Oct 1st was cloudy and we were the only outlet there in the 2 hours before they closed. Koni was our tasting guide and she proved to be an excellent host. When an Italian couple appeared Koni slipped effortlessly into Italian. Turns out they were regulars stopping by from Milan to buy a case of Kabola's excellent white entry level offering which the love. Since Trieste is just over the hill lots of Italians drive here. Koni was very knowledgeable about their wines, the region and its history. It was unhurried and so friendly. Just a perfect afternoon in the vineyard above it all. The area looks Tuscany with many hilltops occupied by ancient towns. Given time and the March of progress (global affluence, tourism and wine sophistication) this area will be Napa in another 20 years. Get here early!

Visited here with a Croatian friend who was keen to educate us about the wines of Istria. Tried several of those on offer, one of which (the Cab Sav) we chose at Stari Podrum, where we had dinner later the same day. All wines were very good and reasonably priced. The cellar has an excellent location overlooking part of the vineyard and the service (from the owner's daughter, I think) was very friendly and helpful.Having visited this vineyard and tried several different wines every day during our stay, our education is now nicely in progress - Istrian wines are world class!

Nice wine tasting and reasonably priced and distinct local winery. Tried the three typical offerings, white, red (Teran) and semi sweet (Moscato). Knowledgeable staff but there is no tour of the winery.

Kabola is beautifully situated and their wines are excellent. We were given very professional and friendly service, although not overwhelming. It is interesting to visit because they store some of their wine in traditional amphoras under ground.
